Nice capture! Generally the noise in the bokeh can be easily seen while the noise present in the details (like the bird here) may not be that evident. We can selectively remove the noise in the bokeh. This can be easily done by running NR with aggressive settings on a duplicate layer and mask the appropriate places by using a layer mask, whereby you expose the bird's (subject) details as it is, while giving the bokeh a more silky look.

Yeah it was a high end P&S for the early 2000s. I used it for 6 years, along with my film cameras (F80 and F100, the F5 was sold off by then), till I got another Sony 10MP digital P&S in 2007. These were the only digital cameras I could afford back then.

Believe me, those Sonys are very decent P&Ses. I still use 'em even though I have 2 high end DSLRs, in the firm belief that the best camera is the one that is always with you. No point being an equipment snob when all that counts in the end is capturing the moment or image that you want. If nothing else I use my mobile phone's camera.

This is sharp..and a nice pic of a Bulbul. But, the noise - why is it so noisy for a pic taken in day light? Is it a crop at high magnification coz of low res?

Its not cropped much, also the actual image has very low noise in RAW as well as exported JPEG by LR. I had uploaded it on FB and flickr and it has screwed up the image quality like anything.

I dont have PS but then I might use GIMP for the workflow you mentioned. Thanks for the tips

@Robinmahanta
Amazing bear shot! Love that rim light around him

A few city shots, all from the D800.
The first three are with a 20mm f2.8 Manual focus lens and the last one is from a 50mm f 1.2 manual focus lens.

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

TG - The 2nd one is a lovely composition. The last one looks a little noisy. What was the ISO? Or was it because of sharpening?
This one is from a private zoo called "Out of Africa" near Phoenix.

Re: The Official non-auto Image thread

@TG, wonderful pictures!
I remember these places when I was there for about a month last year for TR followed by another task at Redmond.

I have looked at some other long exposure shots by you sometime back, all of them are just great capture!
Tanks for sharing.

Thanks Shaju. The secret is that the birds did seem to be very friendly allowed me to get enough close to them.
