The timing is perfect in this one too. I am sure a lot of hard work and patience has gone into both the photographs. You have a thing for birds. I do follow NatGeo DD regularly, I think I remember the Pelican shot.

I have a few pics which I have clicked but not as good as yours. Will soon upload them in this thread.

What camera and lens kit do you use for birding? I already see you have a Nikon 200-500.
Thanks again
I use a Nikon D810.

Sunset over the river Brahmaputra. Captured this using an 8mm fisheye lens.

Beautiful pictures, Nilanjan!! Loved the details captured in the sunset and the majestic look of the tiger (looks so calm).

Nilanjanji, once again you've left me in a reverie.......Marvelous as the pictures of the Satpura leopard at sunset(?) and the Ranthambore lion as well as the Bangalore sunset are - its the the Dudhwa and Terai captures that take me to Valhalla, no other word for it! Call it prejudice if you like, but that is the simple truth.

Yes, I too like misty/moody shots nowadays. :-)

------------

Here is one (low res) of a very rare tiger, processed for print (have been selling a few).

And here is the story behind the shot, in a Nikon 'Behind The Lens' article that featured me earlier this month.

Hello Nilanjanji!
First off the bat, let me congratulate you on that extraordinary shot of the tiger at the NBR. This capture too has your signature – the misty quality of the surrounds, with the hint of mischief lurking behind the eyes of the splendid animal. Not in the least surprised that it should feature in Nikon’s article! In my own travels I usually manage to mention (in appropriate company of course) that I know Nilanjan Ray, the nature photographer. I guess in my advancing years I am turning into a name-dropper, despite my wife’s severe strictures.
Reading the story behind the photograph I can only echo your sentiments - that more people are inspired to take up this craft seriously. And that (unlike so many of us, including tours truly!), they need not end up as square pegs in round holes, but instead earn a living doing what they love to do.

Thank you Shashankaji.

I am more like a semi pro. Never thought of doing this - exclusively - for the rest of my life (have other interests too). Would you believe that I have been missing the tech world, and am thinking of getting back to it?

I know just what you mean - you miss the tech world, because your sabbatical extended longer than you planned! I wouldn't worry tho' - now you know that that tech world is not your only life-line! Your real love lies elsewhere!

I'm enjoying my retirement thoroughly - travelling where & when one's fancy (and more importantly, one's purse strings!) decides! Our dogs & regular doses of Naukuchiatal providing those vital doses of ozone without which we would vegetate!

Fascinating captures, Fazal! Specially the one with the jets in the foreground & the tower in the background. Brings to mind that mind-numbing incident in the not too distant past!

Regards,
Shashanka
