@Nitin: Thanks I'm just learning now.. got inspired by this thread and wanted to have an SLR,but sense prevailed and got myself a pro-sumer cam, which gives a taste of full manual control.Once i learn, i hope to upgrade.Your cam has manual controls?

I can play around with the settings a bit. I guess shutter speed can be changed from +2 to -2. There are night shot settings, and I can select a 'pin point' focus,or a general focus.

That which varies b/n +2 to -2 is Exposure compensation.Shutter speeds,if controllable might vary between fractions to several seconds.

Oh ok.I thought that indicated shutter speed. So does it make any sense in playing around with the Exposure compensation to be able to get a good shot of say,the moon? I'd like to get that clarity, but I doubt if my cam can do it with the 12x digital zoom.

Not much I should say... In lay terms, exposure compensation will let you brighten or darken the subject against the back ground..thats all.And never use digital zoom, It is akin to cropping the image-you can always do it in your computer later.

Nice shot for handheld, Iv never actually used the tripod but planning to start practising. Somehow the original pic where it's yellowish looked good.

From my limited experience,It is easy to shoot moon handheld-you can manage without a tripod.
Even i felt that the first one looks better, but the white one must be closer to reality.Or atleast thats what i feel, Traditionally the moon is often referred to as silver,or compared to milk etc...

Some more from my past travels. Kuromon Market in Osaka, Japan - as colorful as it can get (May 2004; taken with Casio EX-S2):
[The flowers and fish are real, but the sushi, etc. are plastic exhibits - that's Japan for you!]

Photos shot thru a binocular

I shot these with a binocular and a Nikon P5000 at the Vedanthangal bird sanctuary.. did not have a SLR and the birds were not very close.. I came to know later while googling that there are binoculars available with integrated digicams, to click pictures.....
