Whoa Ranjit, 5/5...huh?

Now that you mentioned it. Indeed the table and chair are quite far apart. And, they are heavy too. I had to employ a wrestler for that act

Food is nice and simple. Dont expect rich food like Sholay, its much leaner!

The Westin at Mindspace, Hyderabad

Had a team lunch at Westin.

Had read a review about this place before and decided to give it a try.
We were offered Rs 699 per plate with 14.5% tax extra as a special rate.

The ambiance is quite nice. Very bright and colorful. Love the way the high roof lets in just enough sunlight to give it an illusion of outdoors with the comfort of an air-conditioner.

Soups. I did not try it. There was some veg broth and seafood soup. The seafood though tempting was clams and shells. I let it pass.

And continuing with my no-roti, no-rice meals. I loaded up on the proteins.
There was Buffalo. The second time I am eating this meat. And I like it. Its soft and tender.

The was some awesome grilled fish. Even its garnish was very tasty.
Also had the Mediterranean delights like pita, homous and 2 other pastes.

In a first, I tasted cavier. Very delicately placed on sushi. It was tuna fish and I think I will acquire a taste for it. It does take a little getting used to.

I remembered reading an old article on how to eat sushi and hopefully I remembered it right. Rice on tongue, fish on top.

The lamb leg roast was very well cooked. Missed my family a lot as they would have really enjoyed it.

The service was quite good but I had no need for them. A couple of my friends did complain about the time it takes to get rotis.

Deserts were interesting and a cold kulfi completed the meal.

They also had cranberry juice in test tubes.
One tube was perfect, the other was too sweet.

Between Ista and Westin.

Ista wins for me. But Westin is a much better choice for a large team with varied tastes.

Nice review there.

However, looking at pictures, the food from these star hotels looks so hygenic, almost hospital like.

I am not a fan of such blemish free food as they usually taste bland and real flavours cannot be enjoyed. That's just my opinion.

OT: If there are any openings for sales people in your organization, please let me know. Our company does not spend such grand amount ( for that matter, no amount is spent) on team outings.

Recos from Hyderabad gurus

One of my friends is visiting Hyderabad just to have "food" over the weekend. Sight seeing will be there, but that is to digest the food which is consumed

Choices - No Veg !!! No Fish. All other Non Veg are heartily accepted.

Please suggest some authentic Hyderabadi cusine. Paradise and Bawarchi are usual suspects. I suggested RR as per your recos.

I am a Hyderabadi myself, (non resident for the past few years, so not aware of latest things, also a Veggie), so I would like to listen from you guys about "the" places to visit this weekend.

thanks in advance.

Rayalseema Ruchulu is a good place for authentic telangana food.

Its owned by a friend and he has been consistently winning the TOI award for best andhra food including this year.

If Biryani is what your friend is looking forward to then ask him to give Paradise a skip and try the following :-

4 Seasons ( nice place for hyderabadi and arabic cuisine)

Cafe Bahar , Hyderguda

If he still has appetite left, he can then check out Bawarchi or Astoria as both their biryani is quite good.

Last evening, went out for a quick meal with wifey. After driving around and contemplating where to go and were about to decide for Utupura as we were outside CC Mall. But, then North Indian food always wins over any other cuisines for us, so decided to head straight to Pakwaan, Tadbund.

Ambience is OK has AC family section and non-AC section for regular junta.

When we reached, there was a huge fight going on in other section, lot of shouting and fist cuffs were flying. Reminded me of the old hyderabad

After the excitement died down, we ordered the following :-

Tandoori Chicken (1/2) : Rs.90
Chicken Dilruba : Rs.120
Butter Naan : Rs.15
Rotis : Rs. 8 each
Thumbs Up : Rs.18 each

Total Damage : Rs.280 ( Lowest bill ever in my life),,,Papaji Ka Dhaba is more expensive than this place.

Tandoori Chicken is the best item here. Juicy, superbly marinated and I can say probably one of the best in our city. Hope they continue with this quality. MUST HAVE !!!!

Chicken Dilruba was also good and presented very nicely.

Naans and Rotis were average.

I saw folks ordering Biryani on other table. I almost fainted looking at the size of the bowl. Presentation looked quite nice.

I will go back there again to dig into Tandoori Chicken and maybe Biryani.

Thanks Wasim for this lead !

You could hire me as food consultant, you also get to travel in a vintage 1942 ford jeep and also enjoy the best food served in Hyderabad.

It depends whats your friends choice of N.Veg food is. Does he like biriyani, kebabs or the gravy preparations.?

Just came across this thread. Hyderabad is one of my favourite cities, stayed there for close to 4yrs and been to many restaurants.
Mentioning some of them :

Paradise
Wow, I love the biryani there, miss it now a days. Actually I liked this entire restaurant, so many different outlet of the same restaurant, serving different categories of people - rooftop, Paradise Gold, Takeaway(would like to mention here that this is one of the most efficient, super fast takeaways I have seen!), without ac (grnd floor, 1st floor), bakery shop (loved the faluda, hhmmm!)
One more thing I think is one of best is the Grilled Chicken(the one you get at takeaway). Then during Ramzan the haleem.

WaterFront (East Street) - Fantastic ambience, especially at night with hussain sagar just beside, costly, food is OK I would say.

Havelli (LifeStyle) - Excellent restaurant, excellent food, nice atmosphere, loved the pan after lunch there. Buffet is also good.

Zaffran (Somajuguda Rd) - Again nice restaurant, very good food.

SeventhHeaven (Near Panjaghutta) - Good restaurant, indoor and roof top, good food.

Tandoor (White House) - Tasty food, really the food is very very tasty, the kababs..wow, costly though.

Our Place (Banjara Hills) - The location is a bit odd, a bit inside from the main road, but once you get in, its a different story altogther. Roof top, indoor, open air (with candle lights), live ghazal at background, not so costly but very tasty food, one of the best places if you are more in numbers.

Nankins - This place is near paradise, park road. Not so costly, excellent chinese food, and the quantity is sooo much, only problem is need to wait at least 20mins. before you can get inside. So, always used to book over phone and then go after 30mins. collect the food, get back to home

Flyover Bakery - This is just round the corner when one take rt turn from lifestyle towards ameer peth. Its a small shop, the tangri kababs are too good to resist.

Ok I`ll stop here, the post is already long and I can continue for some more time. Enjoy the food friends!!!

Roti-Shoti,Sindhi Colony

For the foodies,a lil piece of info, theres a new place opening up @ Sindhi Colony, beside Cafe Coffee day and opposite Heritage fresh called Roti Shoti.

Also another piece of info is that Bhaba's Chulha has been shifted to basement of the Neeru's bldg on Somajiguda.Dosa & Idlis added to the many(not sure what was the need though!!)

Also IMHO,the momo's guy who stands outside Heritage Fresh serves up the most awesome momos in this part of the town alongwith the freshest of sauces!

You forgot to highlight the important point of your offer. The bill has to be paid by the visitor from Bangalore

Wasim, next pit stop is Utupura, been thinking of going but, Kerala cuisine doesnt excite me so been giving it a miss. Now i think i should go there soon.

I cant wait to go back to Pakvaan. What i am going to order is decided.

Tandoori Chicken..1/2
Reshmi Chicken
Chicken 65
Mutton Biryani

I need company to polish this much food. Who wants to join me?

I noticed, they dont serve half plates for any snack except Tandoori. Is that right?

I am aware about Roti Shoti coming up there. Cant wait to try them out.

Though me and wifey are not fans of Momo's, the last time we tried it outside from that guy in front of Heritage, it was nice. But, their inherent bland nature fail to excite my palate.

When we go to sindhi colony, we snack as below :-

1 Kacchi Dhabeli
1 Pav Bhaji from next bandhi
1. Wada Pav from next bandhi
1 strange juice ( forgot the name) from bandhi next to it
1 momo plate from bandhi in front of heritage store

Dinner completed !!!

I am game for Pakvaan any time & i stay very close to the restaurent.
Yes, in the AC section only tandoori is served half.
Please do not visit Pakwaan over the weekend (specially evenings),you will be disappointed. The owner has told my cousin not to visit on sat and sunday.Heavy rush and all that.

Betw-Do not try the daily special dishes (fish gravies in general) served at Utupura, they are very authentic and will not suit our palate.

Sure, lets do that. I am proposing a meet for this one next wednesday (July 7th)

Ani/Ravvs/Nazim/Suren/Wasim/Hillram/Venu/Nikhil/Everyone else who wishes to join

If Ravvs is ok, we can meet at his office around 8pm and then go to Pakvaan which is quite close from his home for an amazing carnivores dinner at around 10pm?

What say folks? Food is really good. Tandoori chicken is going to floor you all
