I had been to SHOLAY last evening with my family (SILVERWOOD + 6) and ordered the following

Reshmi kebabs (2 no's)- Good taste
Amritsari Fish (2 no's)- Please try this, wow
King prawn- i dont like prawns
Veg kebab platter- Did not taste it.No comments.stupid:stupid:
Bhatinda de Kukkad- Good
chicken tikka masala-Good
Roghan Josh
Rumali roti, pudhina parahtha and butter naan.
Plain rice
Zeera rice

Dish of the evening:Roghan Josh- Awesome dish, almost boneless mutton pieces and thick gravy.

Total Damages- Rs 2,400 after 20% BHP discount including tips.

Last evening, after visiting a few Ganesh idols and wanting to eat a simple maggie meal at home, it turned out we had to stop enroute home at " Bowl O China", Himayathnagar for a quick meal.

This was the first time i visited Bowl O China in Himayathnagar and was pleasantly surprised to enjoy some excellent quality chinese food.

We ordered :

Veg Tom Yum Soup : 2 No's ( Very Good)
Veg Balls in Manchuria Sauce ( Excellent)
Veg Noodles in Schezwan sauce ( Excellent)
Veg Fried Rice ( Good)
2 Thumbs-up

Total Damage : Rs.600 ~

As mentioned, I judge the quality of a chinese restuarant from :-

a) How they lay the table
b) Quality of Rice and Noodles

Great place to dine out. However,their Fish and Prawn items are exorbitantly priced with Rs.225 being the cheapest Fish dish

Well, that was due to Ganesh Chathurthi.

I dont eat NV till "Bappa" is in our home. He will be immersed either today or wednesday ( 3rd day or 5th day). And, i will be mighty sad to see him go:)

They have a Ganesh Chaturty Modak's special in Bikanerwalla.

A kilo depending on the type of modak costs between 300-400 a kilo.
Very tasty mithai.

You would get relieved of this thing in a day or two, but I do follow the whole 10 day's schedule. Strictly avoid eating out too. It's gonna be amazing home made food for the next 8 days too.

If you guys want, shall keep posting what I had for dinner each day. Kya karoon, for the first time, I would be having all the meals at home for the next 10 days. This is happening after a long long time.

Day 1: Dahi Wada, Palak Pakoda, Patherweli (a leafy variant of Bhakarwadi, made in similar manner. Unlike the flour coating of Bhakarwadi, this has the outer coating made of Leafy vegetables & Flour. The batter is much the same), Besan Laddoo.

Day 2: Aaloo Tikki, Aaloo Cutlets, Shejwan ki Daal & Hot off the pan Rotis.

Day 3: Today ~eagerly waiting for dinner~

Avi, nothing beats the taste of Home Made Modaks. Just that Aroma of Modak's make me go bonkers and eagerly await for the Pooja to end. Have seen a variety of Modak's in the market off late, but nothing comes close to the "Maa Ke Haath ke bane hue Modak"

^^This eating at home subject got me thinking. At home, is it most likely "home cooked food" by a wife/mother, or by a "cook"? Just curious. Living in the US, home cooked is wife/mom, but when I think of the luxuries of India, one of those luxuries is the possibility of having a cook of some sort. Just curious how common it is in general..

BTW, I'm glad the Haleem talk seems to be over for the year/season. The last month I've been drooling over here more then usual reading this thread. :D

Home Made Food is generally made by either Wife/Mother. Cooks do not make good food, that personal touch seems to be missing when Cooks make it. I would prefer food cooked by my family members, rather than the cook. Moreover, being a joint family, we have 3 people to cook food for us, so its VARIETY all over ;)

Missing talking about Haleem. Have to wait for another 332 Days to starting speaking about it.

We have a cook at home for nearly 2 years now.

Some dishes, she makes fantastic with almost zero supervision but, to get same taste as your mom/wifey cooks, either of them have to be hovering around her with handful of tips/advices.:)

Lucky you! I've been searching in vain for a cook. Got any suggestions? How much is the normal payment per month?

She is happy to accept Rs.1500/month because she knows we eat out a lot so, she has more holidays than an IT Employee:D

Else, i think its around Rs.2500-Rs.3000 a month if your lucky to find one.

+1 on that.

My cook of 2 years is good with south Indian cuisine, requires no supervision.

But she needs supervision while cooking other regular stuff.
