These are things I do not want to miss in this visit, kindly advice me the best places to have them. preferably close to Sec'bad.
1) Pathar ka gosht
2) Paya
3) Mirchi Bajji
Welcome to Hyderabad. Here are my suggestions

1. Patthar Ka Ghost

Bade Miyan Kebabs ( Served only on Sundays in Tank Bund/Somajiguda ( Available Daily)
Banne Nawabs ( Toli Chowki, Mehdipatnam)

2. Paya

Shadab/Naigara/Green Park Midnight Buffet

3. Mirchi Bajji

Gokul Chat. Though its available and quite good in most small time bandhis, its best to try from Gokul Chaat.

Truly Mumbai style.
Thanks guys for the tips. Been waiting for GVP for a long time. Will visit these places this week to satiate my craving for VP.

Cheers

Thanks a lot. Also wanted to know what is Ankapur chicken. Is it a dry snack or a curry? Where is it available in Hyderabad?

Thanks Ranjit, I will speak to these hotels. However looking at their websites none of them seem to be below 2000 rs.

It is a gravy curry, named after the village in Telangana where it became popular. Now there are a lot of Ankapur cicken outlets in Nizamabad and the surrounding villages. They typically sell the curry of one chicken and 1 kg cooked rice with it for 300-350 bucks.

There are couple of outlets in Bowenpally area which make it strictly on order. I posted the contact number of one of the guys on this thread some time last year. If you are really keen, let me know. Will dig it up for you.

Has anybody been to the "Annapurna" restaurant located on the new road behind Ayyappa society connecting Jubilee Hills rd#36 with the Hitech city - kphb road?

From outside this looks like a typical Andhra Mess.

Btw does this road have a name yet? Its difficult trying to describe it everytime.

I ordered a meal parcel once. Did not like it. (This is the joint near YSR statue on that road, right?)

re: A Guide: Eating out in Hyderabad/Secunderabad/Cyberabad

Had a buffet lunch Daspalla.

After the discounts the bill was Rs 400 per pax.

The soup was ok. The starers had
Cheese Balls: Not so good, quite bland and tasteless.
Fried Corn: This was nice and crispy.
Chicken Kabeb: Was quite low on salt and the meat had no flavor or taste.
Fish in some sauce: I liked it.

Mutton Nihari: This was called Nihari but in reality it was some thick sauce. This is what I ate. The meat was tender and very well cooked. Each piece was tasty and I ate a lot of pieces.

I did not touch any of the other dishes.

My meal was meat and only meat. I might go back to the buffet for just this dish.

I did taste a little bit of desert. There was a channa kheer. It was nice and not overly sweet.

The rest of my team, who ate the rest of the spread were quite happy with the food.

re: A Guide: Eating out in Hyderabad/Secunderabad/Cyberabad

I was at Daspalla for their midnight buffet on wednesday,

cost Rs.360 Per Pax including taxes (no corporate discounts on midnight buffet)

Menu was good and it consisted of the following items

Tomato Shorba or Paya Shorba with Buns
Sprouts,Pasta and Vegetable salads
Live Dosa with 3 types chutneys (loved the chutneys)
Angara Murgh and Mutton Mamsam kura in non-veg curries
Paneer Tikka masala and Veg Makhanwala in veg curries
Dal Makhani
Rumali roti
Chicken,Mutton and Veg Biryani
Mirchi ka salan and Raita
Bisebheli bath with chips
Rice,Rasam,bhendi fry,Sambar,Pickle,Fryums and curd rice.

Deserts were : hot Gulab jamun and Kala jamun,Milk Mysore Pak and Pista Ice-Cream.

all the dishes were tasty and well prepared and I felt it was a definite VFM Buffet for Rs. 360 all inclusive.

So this is how the whole business of franchising works:

Anyone who has taken up the franchise, would have to take all the raw material from Goli certified distributors. They will get the Pav, Vada (frozen, how we get the McCain Fries/Nuggets), chutneys, Cheese etc from the certified distributors which is 55% of their cost.

So all in all, it is not fried, but frozen. All the outlet has to do is fry it.

I know this because I was about to take a franchise of another Logo in Mumbai some years back.

Never been to this place as its not in my route or in first name on mind. These days got pretty lazy to try out new restuarants. Will mark this for a visit sometime soon.

Yesterday been to OTF for lunch with another friend. We ordered :-

Thyme Scented Chicken (Rs.135) : Excellent is a mild word

Lemon Chilly Prawns ( Rs. 175) : If you look at the way it was presented, I thought it will taste like heaven. But, in reality it didnt. I didnt like the combination of couscous with it. Prawns itself were chunky and not juicy. I prefer prawns in smaller sizes.

Poultry Pizza : They cannot bungle this one up being their trademark pizza. Delicious word has to be replaced with something more stronger in dictionary

OT: Arcot, time to change your avataar picture to a Chevy Logo
