re: A Guide: Eating out in Hyderabad/Secunderabad/Cyberabad

Guys, another Ramzan season is here and everyone is pretty excited as I see. Can someone please post a list of specialties (veg/non-veg/snacks/sweets etc.) that are available during Ramzan apart from Haleem? I would be interested in trying a few of them this time. It would also be great if someone can post the place where we will get the stuff too. My parents are visiting me during August for 4 days and would love to take them around and try few of these though we are not hardcore foodies, but like to experiment once in a while and break the monotony. My parents do not eat mutton, and eat only chicken & fish. If someone is kind enough to post a list, let it be a full-fledged one, I can pick what suits me/parents.

P.S: I'm yet to have the first Haleem of the season. Just got out of medication, due to mild food poisoning!

re: A Guide: Eating out in Hyderabad/Secunderabad/Cyberabad

Hi I miss the Hyderabad food and the irani chai. Planning a weekend trip in next fortnight I used to like the Irani chai at alfa in front of Secunderabad station and red Rose in
somajiguda. This was few years ago. Please tell me if any new places have come up which serve better tea in any part of the twin cities.

My personal favourites to eat out are Gokul chat. I have a sweet tooth so eating the odd
sweets at GPR sweets in somajiguda are some of the things I miss when I'm in Mumbai.

Have a great season of delicious haleem

re: A Guide: Eating out in Hyderabad/Secunderabad/Cyberabad

Yesterday night for dinner been to the much talked about, hyped about and bored to death praised about " Kashmiri Heights" at Begumpet. This place is actually is on first floor of Hyderabad House on M.G Road.

Ambience is decent

Service is slow as the waiters are a confused lot as they fumble around meaninglessly here and there. Asked for water a few times before getting it, Lemon and onions same story. Basically untrained waiters who dont know how to go about

Coming to the food since it was our first visit didnt want to do too much of experimenting and wanted to stick to tried and proven dishes of this cuisine and we ordered the following

1. Mutton Sheek Kebab ( Rs. 160 for 2 Long Pieces)
Its brought to the table in one long piece and cut in front of you. Looks Juicy but, tastes like Chicken even though the waiter insisted its mutton. So mild, you dont taste anything.

2. Mutton Roganjosh ( Rs.250)
You get huge chunks of indistinguishable mutton pieces which is again cooked mildy with hardly any gravy which is also very mild. Color of the dish is light brown unlike the dark brown of this dish we are used to in other restuarants.

3. Rotis and Garlic Naan was pretty good

Total Damages : Rs.550/2 Pax ( Note, only cash is accepted)

Tables around us were complaining about slow service, uncooked rice, disappointed with Chicken Pulao, someone was complaining that they have driven 15kms and were totally disappointed with this place etc.

Will I go back again? Yes, maybe one final time but, not anytime soon.

Food was just ok ( we ordered grilled prawns, Platters etc) nothing to rave about. So be careful with the ordering as its frightfully expensive. 3 of us ran up a bill of close to 15K

As the night passes, the crowd becomes even better. It's best to reach there around 9pm and you will see the who's and who's of Hyderabad there.

It's a great place to go when someone else is paying the bill
As you rightly said, it is a great place if someone else is paying the bill. And thats what happened with us as well
Our Line of Business was in India and we happened to select this place and it was fun having some drinks with yummy starters followed by main course on a rainy & breezy night!

We had a non-veg platter, veg spring rolls & mangoalian chicken for starters. All three of them were great with the right kind of spice and taste attached to it.
And I had a penne pasta and Lasagne for main course (shared by me and my friend) and we both loved them.
Overall, a thumbs up to OTM and I will surely look forward to visiting this place again

Dear BHPians,

Can someone suggest me the best place to have a candle light dinner in Hyderabad?
Please provide multiple suggestions and I will pick the best, considering the location and other factors!

Thanks in advance!

Here are a few recommendations :-

Zafraan Exotica
Waterfront
Kebab e Bahar ( Taj Banjara)

All above are candle light style places with Taj being an awesome location

Other nice places to celebrate an occasion are :-

Hotel Golconda
Sahib Sindh Sultan
Serengeti
Tansen

Thanks for that Avi, will surely check out these delicacies.

So last night ventured out and had the first Haleem of the season from ShahGhouse, Tolichowki. I reached there around 10:30 pm accompanied by one of my friends. The entire place was filled with people. Since the entire location is full of food joints, it was real crowded. We parked our car near Pista house outlet and walked to ShahGhouse.

Priced at 100/- per plate, the haleem was really good. We shared a plate and really liked it. This is my 2nd season of Haleem, and didn't quite dig it the first time I had it last year. Now I have started liking it, and am able to gauge the excitement surrounding it.
Generous amount of ghee and spices, the meat was well cooked and paste-like. We got a few bones which I believe is normal. I remember getting ridiculously huge bones last year from the Pista House haleem.

They had a table outside selling dates, phirni, custard, etc. While I think it was the normal phirni that we get all year round at these places, had one at 35/- which was good, followed by Irani tea and Osmania biscuits. Was a good start to the season. Planning to explore more in the coming weekends.

Cheers!

Jay, the guy, Raju who sells Phirni, Rabdi, Fruit Salad, Qubani Ka Meetha only sells it during the season. Try his Phirni and Rabdi, they are the best deserts sold by this guy. I wanted him to take up an order for one of my parties, he was unable to take up the order as they make it only during this season.

With regards to Waterfront, in case you really wanna enjoy the food, I recommend you sit inside and not near the lake front as sometimes the smell of the polluted Hussain Sagar can get over you and spoil your appetite. As an added advantage, you also have live music playing inside.

I have sat outside a couple times and a few times inside. I like the outside ambience because of the wooden flooring etc. overlooking the water.

I really never felt the overpowering smell of HS as we normally go to Sailing Club also many times and sit by the lake

But, I agree the ambience inside is very romantic and magical. But, their food is not as spectacular as their ambience.

+1 to Avi's List and adding a couple from my experiences

Our Place @ B'Hills . very cozy, greeny place and with very well spread multi cuisine available

However if you are also planning to include a long drive there is one good restuarant @ Alankrita Resorts which serves you good dinner by the poolside with very good open view.

Its been a while i have been to these places so experts can give their latest reviews

Have a good time !!

Our Place, been there for its inaguaration and many times over the years, it was one of the most popular restuarants in Hyderabad but, their quality went south and prices, very north. Nobody even talks about it now which makes me beileve they are dead. I like the ducks running around the garden though

With regards to Alankrita, I think you must be referring to Prakrutha which is the open air V & NV restuarant which used to be good. Been there just too many times as I used to love driving till there and enjoy dinner and drive back.

But, overall food quality of Alankrita is horrible as of now. The last person to say the food was terribly was Octane78 who went to celebrate an occasion and he didnt like the food. Its a great place to visit if you like a long drive, enjoy some greenery and dont mind average food.

Not sure if thats the name there is some "Roopa" in its name i believe lucky us the food was good but this was also 8-9 months ago.

A similar dine in place by the pool used to be there in "Darling Caves" the food was okay but we liked the ambience and the pool by the cave. Not sure how its now though .

Its Atiroopa, which is a multi-cuisine restaurant at Aalankrita. There is also a small outside place which IIRC is called Atiroopa annexe. Both these places used to serve good food 3-4 years ago but as with many places, the quality has come down. Last been there 3 months ago and the only thing I enjoyed was the drive.
