re: A Guide: Eating out in Hyderabad/Secunderabad/Cyberabad

Please suggest a restaurant that serves good Indian Non-Veg and continental veg food.

My dad needs the chicken kababs and my mom wants only veg continental food.

Btw, howz All Seasons, off rd#2? Planning to take my team there next time.

Couple of days ago a colleague gave a treat at the new Ohri Jiva Imperial at the white house bldg, greenlands. It only has a buffet which I found awesome in taste as well as choice. I wished i has two stomachs! They also had a seperate mocktail menu (@150/- each) with interestingly named herb and fruit drinks like 'saas bahu aur tulsi', 'why this nariyal di' etc.

its totally paisa vasool but a downer for some of u: its all veg only (can imagine norulez going blue in the face).

I'll remember to check out the meet thread n join u ppl in future lunch meets. Ravi, in case i forget plz inform me atleast 1 or 2 days in advance so that i may plan my day properly. Somehow i always seem to have meetings at work just before lunch time.
Andy,

OTF lunch was awesome. U should have been there.

All Seasons is alright. Nothing great, not bad either. I have eaten there couple of times, ordered door delivery few times. It has been decent.

@ Ohris Jiva: Abbaaa...You still spend money on veggie food? Brrrrr

Will keep you posted about the dinner meet. You should come with your family. Will be a great gathering.

IndiJoe at City Center. Buffet for 4 including all taxes, VAT and SC came to 1909.

Nothing remarkable about the food nor the ambiance. But it met my particular requirement very well.

Was at Southern Mirchi.Amazing food.Opted for a biriyani and a veg thali. The food was finger-licking good. Its on the road that goes up beside Subway & Calcutta Rolls just before Nagarjuna Circle.

Some trivia:Apparently this place is run by a breakaway group of chefs from Chutneys. Some three ex-chutneys chefs own and run this place.Service is faultless and the taste is yummy as per me.Authentic as well.

The thali is priced at INR 160 and the biriyani was priced at 220 and it was quite a big serving.Valet parking available.

No,this has both. There is a non-veg thali as well priced at around 250 IIRC.

Hi Ranjit,

Are these all inclusive prices or the taxes are extra on these prices?

Is the thali available only for lunch or also for dinner?

Cheers!

I dont quite remember seeing any mention on the menu of the thali being available only for lunch.I therefore assume its available for dinner as well.

The prices are exclusive of tax.For a total amount of INR 380,I paid INR 404,so there was a 24 rupees tax component, though I again do not remember the percentage. The food was yummy, though I found it slightly high on the salt content-maybe just a personal observation(but then again I find that almost every restaurant is high on the salt content).

Thaali is available for lunch as well as dinner. It is one of my favorite restaurants. My recommendations at Southern Mirchi would be Thaali, quail fry, fish fry, chicken biryani, appam with aloo curry or mushroom and coconut milk.

The chicken biryani served at SM is one of the best dum biryani you get at Hyderabad and comes with small chicken pieces as against the quarter pieces you get at places like Paradise or Bawarchi. For quail fry, go for the deep fried quail. there is a chinese variant but avoid it.

@Ranjit: I think the place is owned by some Nellore guys, friends of a friend.

Labonel is not what it used to be when Anelise ran it. She sold it and moved out of the country and things have not been the same ever since.

They are still the best in town when it comes to baked stuff and the next best is Ofen further up on the same road.

Both of them seem expensive but the prices are totally worth it IMHO.

For desserts there is another lady on Ritz hotel road. Nice old house at the 1st bend going up from control room side with a green gate (some old cars parked in them too). Must search and look up the number.
