Buddy, Little Italy is ruled out coz it's vegetarian (Been there once from office) I can't imagine myself spending 2 grands and eating grass n leaves

I went with my office colleagues to Celebrations-Horizon(Jubilee hills) to have some good food.

We ordered the regular peanutes, crispy corn, Chicken 65, Egg burji and Non-veg tandoori platter.

1. Crispy corn was a bit salty but was edible.
2. Chicken 65 is good. lol..Who can get this dish wrong? This is one of the basic dishes and it tastes well at any normal restaurant.
3. Egg burji - This was the only saving grace.
4. Non-Veg tandoori platter was bad. Fish was good, Chicken was ok and mutton was a bit hard and we all hated it.

For the main course, we ordered chicken biryani and jeera rice. Both were ok.

All in all, other than the good view, it was an average affair.

I Went to Paradise hotel beside Prasadz Imax. For a change, ordered veg biryani and baby corn masala. It was super delicious.

I have been working out of the IIIT at Gachibowli for the last 1 month but came to know of this very recently.

Its called the Yuktahar Mess which is based on the yogic traditions.

The philosophy of the mess is based on the following

" yuktahara-viharasya
yukta-cestasya karmasu
yukta-svapnavabodhasya
yogo bhavati duhkha-ha "
....... Shrimad Bhagawad Gita (6.17)

Which means:
He who is temperate in his habits of eating, sleeping, working and recreation can mitigate all material pains by practicing the yoga system.

The beauty of this mess is that food is non spicy and cooked with very little oil. And its cooked in an open kitchen. The chappati's are also made fresh for consumption. The people sit on the ground to eat and wash their utensil once they finish. Wasting food is absolutely abhorred upon here.

I had my lunch there today and the mess menu had following items:

1. Plain Rice
2. Veg Pulao
3. Ragi
4. Khichdi
5. Black Dal
6. Yellow Dal
7. Sambhar
8. Capsicum curry
9. Sewai ki Kheer
10. Salad of Onion, Tomato and Cucumber
11. Chapati

The food was absolutely healthy with almost no oil visible.


Food Taste: 4/5
Ambience & cleanliness: 4/5


Cost: Rs 50 for outsiders and Rs.40 for IIIT Students and Staff.

Everything sounds good except the portion in bold. It is very tough for guys like me who are used to dining table to sit on the floor. Even if I do, sitting cross-legged is an impossibility for me.

OT: I remember Sean Connery's JB novel describing padmasana as 'sitting cross-legged, Indian style, with the sides of the feet hurting like hell.

The plates are kept on tables which are about half feet high. And you dont need to sit cross legged on the floor.

Last weekend visited " Blue Fox" at Himayathnagar. This happens to be one of the favorite restuarants of my mom. So on her request, we decided to pay visit for dinner.

We ordered the following :-

Veg Hot & Sour Soup ( 2 No's)
Veg Bullets
Veg Manchurian
Tandoori Chicken 1/2
Kheema Naan
Stuffed Kulcha
Veg Biryani
Mocktails

Each and every dish was excellent with special mention to soup. It was thick, spicy and extremely good

Veg Bullets and Manchurian is my mom's favorite and she likes it best here. It didnt disappoint. However, I should mention, Veg Bullets I had here first when i was a gawky kid and they still taste good here.

Tandoori Chicken was so juicy and well done. It made me numb with happiness

I know a few waiters there and they served the Kheema Naan really well stuffed, it was also pretty good

Biryani was also good

Pricing is quite expensive. Soups for Rs.140, Tandoori was priced killer ( Rs.290 for 1/2)

Overall, we blew 2K for a hearty meal especially since it was after a 550kms of drive and took back home quite some food as take-away too.

Visited Ohri's at Banjara Hills Road No. 12 after quite a while. Ordered their signature "Saboota Talwar" at Tadka. It is a full Tandoori Chicken served in full style :


Visited Ofen on Road No. 10 in Banjara Hills first time for a meal after having heard my wife waxing eloquence about its food and service and reasonable prices.

Amazingly efficient and quick service with extremely polite staff. Pretty okay ambiance. Mosquitoes were there but the staff set up many coils all around as soon as we sat down. They were more than happy to keep bringing bread rolls and bread slices as many times as requested (in fact, they kept asking every now and then if they could bring more bread to the table).

No Service Charge. No Service Tax. No fancy VAT @ 14.5%. A simple 5% VAT. Prices given below with each dish are without the tax component.

I did leave a good tip behind and I would say that they deserved every penny.

I will certainly go back as this is the place for getting my regular "continental" fix which I need every now and then.

Ruci & Idoni which is just down the lane gets a clean bye-bye ever after.

My tip : Order an appetizer and share it between 2 people. Order a soup and split it for 2 people. Order a salad between 2 people. Order a main course between 2 people (or go individually and skip salad and soup). Order a dessert individually. You will be groaning to get up being over stuffed.

I like the food at Ofen but am surprised that you got quick service. If there is anything negative about that place, it is their service. Otherwise everything else is good. We normally sit outside (the small smoking area in the back side) and enjoy the food and lazy service.

Last evening, we visited "Vaishnaoi" at Kacheguda and this is fast becoming my popular restuarant for reasons below :-

1. Close to home
2. Excellent Upmarket Ambience
3. Great Service

Downside
1. Little expensive. They upped the rates from last time I visited

We ordered the following :-

Mutton Kheema Balls (Rs.260)
12 Medium sized meat balls. Crisp, Crunchy, Meaty, Bit spicy and excellent

Chicken Tikka Masala (Rs.240)
Very well cooked tandoori chicken and excellent gravy. But, my most favorite CTM still remains from Papaji Ka Dhaba

Kheema Naan (Rs.60) & Rotis
THis was better than the one that I had from Blue Fox.

Total Bill was roughly Rs.1200 including beverages. What I noted is they charge Service Tax and VAT on total bill which I think is incorrect.

Yesterday around midnight visited " Niagara" at Chaderghat for dinner with a couple of friends.

Ordered the following :-

1/2 Kadai Chicken (Rs.150)

It was simply awesome. Too huge quantity. Spicy and tasty. A wee bit oily though

Rotis and Water Bottle

1 Mutton Biryani (Rs.160)

This again was just how l like it. Double masala and just off the stove, steaming hot and melt in mouth meat.

Followed by a sweet paan from outside

As we were famished, totally loved the experience.

1. Chilly Prawns - This is normally on the display at the Take Away Counter.
2. Tandoori Chicken - The Chicken is roasted and has that flavour, which has been missing off late at other places
3. Chicken Roast Masala - Roasted Chicken cooked in Tomato Curry. Awesome to taste. We take only half plate of it and end up having some for breakfast the next day. That's the quantity he gives for the curries taken there.

Ohri's Tadka has lunch buffet? Everyday or weekends?

I spent just an hour from the time I walked in to Ofen and the time I left the place. I reached there between 20:30/20:45 and met Vnabhi at his apartment sometimes around 22:00.
