Re: Lighter Side of Life : The Official Cartoons Thread

Has anyone seen "Garbage Bin" on Facebook? Some of the cartoons are hilarious - language may not be to everyone's taste though. Here's the link :-

Who is your favourite comic character?

Came across the book thread.

Boy! Aren't there are a wide and varied lot of book loving t-bhpians out there?

Great to know we have some prolific readers and book lovers amongst our midst. Thanks to Samurai for introduction to some good books and authors!

One particular post (from a parent?) was asking for recommendation on reading for 12 and 16 year olds.

Got me reminiscing on what I used to read when I was that old (or is it young?) :-(.

Apart from books, what first came to mind was COMICS!

Some of them are still around -

1. Tinkle
2. Archie (& the gang)
3. Asterix
4. Tintin
5. Garfield :-)

Guess these could be available, if we try hard enough (but not the same vintage) -

1. The Phantom, Mandrake the Magician, Tarzan ...
2. The Superman, Spiderman, Batman ...
3. Peanuts
4. Tom & Jerry
5. Uncle Scrooge (& his family)

By vintage I mean the way the characters were drawn and the paper. Compare any old Archie Digest with the current version, you'll know what I mean.

And, what about these?
1. Dennis The Menace
2. The Pink Panther
3. Casper
4. The Three Stooges
5. Laurel & Hardy

I'm sure there must be plenty of these lying around in some corner.

I had got some of them bound and stored, and sometimes take them out to relive the past!

Whoa! Before I get nostalgic, and go back to being a teen, let me vote for the best comic book characters...

1. The Sad Sack (Beetle Bailey comes a distant second)

2. The Steel Claw (For those who know Tamil, it is 'Irumbukai Mayavi')

3. Iznogoud (by the very same Goscinny)

4. The Ghost Who Walks (Phantom)

5. Spy Vs. Spy

(Marvin is a late entrant, so probably after another decade I'll add him here )

Before I wind down, let me how many of us recollect these famous words : 'What, me worry?'. Hoping to come across some lovers of this genre...

Any one care to venture down the memory lane

PS - MODS, Please merge if there is a similar thread. Couldn't find one in the 'shifting gears' forum.

Re: Lighter Side of Life : The Official Cartoons Thread

Check out this nice comic strip which beautifully evokes the experience of traveling in a car for a child:

I sourced this from this site "Comics that say something"

http://comicsthatsaysomething.quora.com/

Very thought-provoking and nice to look at when you are listless.

Secret agents Calvin and Hobbes

"Why does Agent Calvin carry around that stuffed tiger?"

"No one knows, but he's the best damn agent we have, so no one asks questions."

Aha, so there is a cartoons thread too. How I louve this forum

Anyways, I came across this great deal on The Buddha Box set on Amazon - 50% off - has been on my wishlist for a long time. Thought it better posting here rather than the Books Thread.
