Anand Crowned World Champion

He has now won world championships in all formats of the game.

I hope we take out some time to laud him too, while we are engrossed with Gambhir's (almost double) and VVS's ton

Anand crowned World champion

Congrats Vishy! While we speak a lot about our cricketing heroes, we tend to forget that Vishy is the only sports person who has consistently performed for India in any sport at the highest level. In my opinion, he is the greatest sports person India has produced so far.

We had the fortune to interact with him since our company is a partner of his sponsor and he came down to interact with us once. I remember him playing chess with about 15 people simultaneously. I still cherish those moments.

Way to go Anand! We are proud of you.

Yeah, its a great achievement. I played against him in school when he visited us. This was probably in 1990 or so. He was a young chap and I almost whooped his *** Glad to know that the experience taught him much about the game. ;-)

Seriously, he knocked down the 15 of us without even sitting down once. No wonder he is the king of speed chess.

I read somewhere, that he has a higher fan following in Spain than in Chennai. It is nice to see this thread.
Congrats Anand

Way to go, Anand! This is no ordinary level of achievement!

Sad that such feats are not given their due respect in our country. Hope atleast our government recognizes this and pays the due respect it deserves.

Way to go Vishy! I've almost admired Anand for his achievements and even more for his humbleness despite all his success over the years! This just adds another feather to his cap!

Anand has done India proud, over and over again and once again. But he is still not given the status of the most accomplished Indian sportsperson by the media. Unfortunate. I don't think personally he cares too much about that. What I like most about him is his no frills, simple living style.
Congrats Vishy.
However, I also feel P.T. Usha deserves a prominent place in the hall of fame of Indian sports. If she had access to all the training facilities and international exposure that average Indian sportspersons get today we would have got a world champion long ago. But anyway - let bygone be bygone.

Anand World Champ !! So what ? Gambhir and VVS scored double centuries. That will hog the headlines, unfortunately.

Gambhir is trying to make a comeback and VVS has retired. Anand is still the World Champion. Speaks volumes about this under-praised character.

I agree with you. And just to clarify; my post was a statement on how other sports are not given enough attention by the media
