Just saw this thread. My sincere condolences to Bobby and family.
We have truly lost a great person. I have met him a few times and I can never forget his stories, expecially the one he told me about how he used to do circles around the cops in his 'jararam' supercar during his heydays ! We will miss you Mr. Jayaram !

Sunday evening was riding back home with wifie after an evening window shopping. It was past 8:30 PM already.
Was coming down Promenade Road in Fraser/Cleveland town from St. John's Road/Mother Theresa Circle towards Thom's Bakery when suddenly I heard an engine growl! True enough in front of me was a not-so-conventional looking car.
The car was trying to be revved hard but was hesitating to go. Kinda like it was woken up after days of slumber with a very cold engine. Still had to fire at all cylinders. It almost stalled when I overtook it. Guess the clutch had to be slipped for the engine to awake fully.
It was when I passed it, I read the letters
J A Y A R A M GT on the boot! It was then a shiver ran down my spine. I couldn't believe what I was seeing! Time froze as I was transported back to when I was a kid.
More than 2 decades ago I remember poring upon the pages of Indian Auto. It had featured the story of a hand built car that was painstakingly put together by one guy (couldn't remember who). It spoke of a Standard Herald Chassis that was completely transformed into a new car with inspirations from Jaguars and Porsches of yore! It also spoke of seven (or was it 17?) coats of paint to get that gleaming finish! I spent hours reading and re-reading those lines so many years ago. Day dreaming looking at the pics, that one day I too will build something like this! It sure was this car:

And there I was tottering in first gear behind this roaring car! I got goosebumps as I explained to my wife what I was feeling! I had to, HAD TO speak to the driver of the car and share my appreciation. This was the stuff of dreams! Was looking for the car to stop and so I could poke my head into the open window and speak
Then the car pulled into the petrol pump diagonally opposite Thom's bakery across Thumboochetty Circle. This was my opportunity, just pulled over haphazardly behind and to my wife's surprise, parked it and ran behind the car inside the pump.
It unfortunately didn't stop, but was crawling along. It got out of the pump and roared off into the lanes connecting to Promenade road. I just stood and watched as it went past, with a smile on my face. So what if I couldn't speak to the driver!
It was then a nice guy walked up to me and asked "Following that car?". I said "yes!". Told him how I read about the car in Indian Auto over two decades ago in a place far far away from Bangalore!
Then he told me. The builder of the car passed away a short while ago! Ouch! That was such a sad news! I was filled with joy on seeing this childhood dream and suddenly get to hear this. The car was being prepared for his funeral procession the next day! Really really sad!
We left that place saddened but still with a smile on my face thinking of how a legacy outlives a man. His dreams are still there for us to see. And example of what we can do if we dream hard enough!
Never imagined I would live so close to the place where the car I had dreamt of was parked, when I saw the article 20+ years ago and 1200 km+ away!
Rest in peace Sir! You are an inspiration for us!

With so many memory's around, I wonder what the GT has to say if to could speak, to its maker when he left it to meet his Maker.......

I had the privilege of meeting Mr AD Jayaram on two occasions, due to a few common interests we shared. It was an honour to have interacted with him, and I am richer for it.
I dropped in at Promenade Rd to pay my last respects to one of the original 'Heralds' of Indian motorsport. An era has ended this year, with the passing of two greats, and we are the poorer for it.
Godspeed, sir.
RIP to one of India's pioneers. Didn't know he was the founder of KMSC. Would like to hear more about his work. Somebody?
