Team-BHP - Small car vs Big car

Driving in the city traffic is becoming a nightmare. Lot of headaches like parking, negotiating the vehicle in high trafic etc etc. I heard from people who had been using this big cars (lancer, ford, city, toyota etc) saying that it is better to go with a small car (Maruti 800, Alto, Santro, WagonR) because of ease of use in high density city traffic.

This is purely from handling point and not on commercial basis. I would like to have some one run a poll what people prefer. I do not own a big car & love to have one.

Is it something that can be learnt without buring our hands.

If I compare driving my wifes 800 vs the Honda - I do not have an issue - honda is more compfortable - I can gauge the four corners and park skillfully. At worst, I may not be able to park in small nooks. However, I watched a Wgon R trying to park in my company car park where the spaces are drawn out for american standards (they redrew space in one floor and found they could fit another 15 cars!). It took him 6 manoveures to park face in where as I can reverse in one sweep.

As the ladies say, it is not size that matters but skill !

Agree with Ajmat that its about skill and not size. However, larger cars tend to get nicked here and there (mirrors, sides) in our traffic conditions. I wouldnt mind a few scratches on a Maruti but the same scratches on a 600,000-plus rupee car does cause considerable amount of heartburn. Not to mention higher costs for painting them over. Lost quite a few mirrors in India, and have had my sides painted so many times that I've lost count - mind you these werent accident repairs, but surface jobs to get the tiny nicks and scratches out.

If you drive ONLY in the city, I guess you should look at a comfortable small car.
