Hyderabadi's, how are you tackling the pandemic swine flu. The way media is covering is a bit scary, but docs say its not that big, but the awareness is must. What precautions one has to take and anybody took the vaccine?

- Flu vaccine is only 23% effective. Taking it now will not get you immunity for the next 3 weeks, making you still vulnerable during that time. And the duration of immunity lasts 1 year only. Best time to usually take Flu vaccines is before the start of winter (September).
- Always cover your mouth when in crowded areas (get a face mask, handkerchief, or if you want to be too careful get the N95 mask)
- Avoid taking children to crowded areas if they fall sick quickly.
- Teach children proper coughing etiquette. Adults should also follow the same.
- If any of your colleagues, friends, relatives, or neighbors are having cough with cold (flu symptoms), have them get checked out at the local doctor or clinic.
- Maintain a healthy habit of washing hands frequently.
- Avoid going near children when you come home after being close to crowded areas. Take a shower and a change of clothes prior to having fun with your loved ones.

Yes there are many cases of swine flu arising everyday. Most are being treated well and are recovering successfully. Those that are dying have had the infection for a longer duration with minimal to no medical care, they only go to a doctor after their condition has deteriorated to a point where care given is not of much help. And some might have other factors involving their health that increases the chances of mortality.

Just follow the above precautions and you should be fine.
Take care!!

Yes. We are just following the above precautions very carefully. Since prevention is better than cure, took the vaccine today from Yashoda at subsidised rate offer for corporate employees. Hope all will be well and hoping to see summer in advance than ever for the safety of citizens.

What magnesium tablets can one find in India as supplements? Tried 3-4 chemists, they all had calcium tablets with a itsy bit of magnesium and other crap added.

One chemist suggest MagVion (magnesium oxide), but didn't have it in stock. That good enough?

I am NOT sure this would be the right forum/thread but for lack of any appropriate thread, posting it here. I have been looking around for 'IV Albumin' for past 2 weeks and NOT able to procure the same from pharmacies in and around south b'lore.

Heard it is imported from china and the demand is quite high. If any of you have idea/hint where we can get this medicine in b'lore, please help me.

You should be able to source it from a large pharmacy associated with a tertiary care institute. Small shops don't stock it as it is not precribed in the OPD prescriptions. Here's a list of indian companies products

No need to take one now. The winter is almost coming to an end. Vaccine provides protection after 3 weeks of getting it. And it is only 23% effective and works for a year. Best time to get it would be in September or October this year.

Is this about 'VaxiGrip'? Are there any other effective vaccines?

Also, what might be a better cough syrup for (lots of phlegm)wet cough?
This would be for a elderly person with liver issues.

Try Dr. Gowda Dental Clinic in Madhapur. (Same building as Karachi Bakery). You should be able to Google it. They are a bit expensive but found the dentist and the surgeon to be good there.

Still looking for pure sources of magnesium - magnesium citrate/magnesium glycinate etc without other fillers. Help highly appreciated. Please suggest brands/names, I'll roam the streets to find it.

There is very less supply to Bengaluru. Most of the stock is being sent to Rajasthan and Hyderabad. This is what my Pediatric doctor told me. Had my kids vaccinated last week and she got only 4 vaccines.

Like any flu vaccine, it might not prevent you completely from getting flu but it will not reach advanced stages (maybe through other strains, Doctors, please clarify). This is what they tell us in U.S when we get flu vaccines.

Haven't tried to buy it in Pharmacies directly.

re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Want to put in a public notice:

A man collapsed in another office in my clinic building. After a few minutes they came to us for help. We rushed down and found him cold and wet and no pulse. Started two man cpr for 15 minutes and got a thready pulse and rushed him to a hospital then. Looks grim.

The point is, if someone collapses, don't waste time, if you don't know what to do, rush to a hospital. Call for ambulance first and ask for response time. In our case no one called for ambulance by time we arrived and then we decided to shift in cab and not wait for ambulance. Precious seconds count. Please don't wait.

Remember:
if anyone collapses:
- call for help
- administer cpr if you know how to
- rush to hospital

DO NOT TRY HOME REMEDIES.

On another note, everyone must take a basic cpr course.

Pray he recovers.
