Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

I posted this on the lock-down thread but I hope someone else can shed some clarity.
My mother has a chemotherapy session due and we reside in NOIDA where as the hospital where we go to is in Gurgaon. Now I heard that we need to get an E-pass but that is only for essential workers it seems. Also, should I get an E pass from the Gurgaon website or the NOIDA one?

Question for Paediatricians

We’ve been blessed with daughter recently. She is now 45 days old and her 6 weeks vaccination was due on April 10th April.

I am in Indore and not able to find any pediatric who can give her the due vaccine. How long I can delay it ?

Indore has become a red zone for covid -19, I do not want to goto a hospital for vaccination.
What other options do I have ?

A question to the doctors on the forum:

What are some essential medicines and kit that should always be stocked at home, keeping in mind a joint family including elderly parents and kids?

Vaccination, especially the primary series (6, 10 & 14 week) is considered essential even amidst the Covid 19 pandemic. There should be hospitals offering vaccination in a city such as Indore. Try to find a specialised maternity + children's hospital, where the likelihood of the general 'fever' crowd is lesser.

If absolutely impossible, you'll need to wait till the lockdown is over.

Very difficult to give such a list without knowing the medical history of your family members. Please talk to you family doctor or your regular physician/paediatrician regarding the drugs you need to have at home.

Dear doctors,
Is there anything that we can take to increase our immunity against the Covid-19 virus?
There is a recommendation from AYUSH ministry in this link.

What else can we do?

Vit C is supposed to be very good to fight against COVID-19.
Assuming that you don't have any medical history, apart from the advise given by AYUSH, I suggest that you take Vit C. You can buy Tab Limcee 500mg. Take one tablet once a day till COVID-19 phase is over.

First of all Widal test shouldn’t be done before 1st week! Widal is such a misused test and interpreted as per one’s own need. Widal has only significance in case of rising titre, means if the value above for ‘ O antigen ‘ becomes 1:320 7 days after the first test. It has anamnestic reaction, means false positives are plenty.
CRP is an inflammatory marker, non specific. It shows the person is having an inflammatory reaction.

As already said before Widal in the starting phase is useless. If a person is suspecting typhoid, first test to be done is Typhidot. However, the most specific test for typhoid is blood culture which is not routinely done in clinical practice in India.

If the fever or any other symptoms are still there, consult your family physician and request him/her to prescribe CBC and CRP. See if the CRP has gone up or down and also platelet count. If fever is accompanied by cough and runny nose, consider Corona testing.

There's some infection. If fever still persists, you can repeat CBC and CRP, and look for other complaints. Might consider ruling out tonsillitis. But if there's any respiratory complaints, you will have to get her tested for Covid-19.

If CRP remains high, do a blood culture.

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Dear Doctors,

On May 12th I did RCT for one of my tooth. The doc prescribed one antibiotic Riteozefi-DT 200 and Zerodol-SP., both 1-0-1. I am taking it, but on May 13th onwards I feel moderate pain from inside of my tooth. Today (May 14th)is the last day of my antibiotic and pain killer dose. Still I encounter some pain from inside the tooth.

When I checked with doc, he said it is just normal and the pain will subside in a day or two.

My question to all doctors in this forum is how long does it take to get rid off this pain. Kindly advice. Thanks!

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Hello doctors,

I've now had five days in a row where my right ear feels blocked and I have reduced hearing from it. This has happened before (always with the same ear) but it would normally pop within an hour or two of waking up.

I've tried yawning, pinching my nose and breathing out, etc. to no avail. Today, I poured a couple of drops of almond oil into the ear (following advice from https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/earwax-build-up/) but it hasn't had enough time in there to work.

There is no pain and sometimes, I hear a high pitched ringing in the ear. Should I continue to wait it out and try the oil treatment or is there anything to worry about?

Thank you!

Re: Checking Temperature withOUT thermometer?

What with thermometers NOT available on any shop shelves, would like to know whether is there a way to know our temperature WITHOUT thermometer?

I know of back of hand touching the forehead method and for some reason feel may NOT be accurate.

Facing problem because of prolonged usage of mask

Hi all,

Need some help on one problem I am facing.

I have been attending office from the last 2 weeks. I have to wear a mask for 8-9 hours continuously, while in office.

Our office is normally centrally air-conditioned. But currently we are operating without air-conditioning. The doors and windows are kept open and pedestal fans are kept in cubicles. Strength of staff is less than 33%. In spite of this, it does get a bit suffocating and because of this we generally go out for a stroll in the fresh air after every 1 hour.

I am noticing that by evening my energy levels are extremely low - even after I reach home and take out the mask. (I have pre-existing conditions - hypertension and hypothyroidism, and taking medication for them)

Also, towards the evening I start getting a sensation of blocked nose, even though it is not actually blocked. My other colleagues also are complaining of the same.

Could the above be happening because of prolonged usage of mask ? I am using 3M Dust/Mist Respirator 8710IN+ mask. I wash it by dipping in diluted dettol solution for some time, followed by dipping in water.

Another problem I am facing is that my eyes are getting dry because the air which I exhale is seeping from the top portion of the mask (the lower portion is almost air tight) and going right into my eyes. I am keeping my eyes shut for a few seconds, every few minutes to provide some relief. Any remedy for this ?

Rohan

I am not a dentist but I asked one of my friends and he said it varies from patient to patient. Keep painkiller tablets with you and take it when required. If you feel the pain is not subsiding or increasing in intensity, consult your dentist to have a look again, to rule out any infection or pus collection.
