Can the doctors here please comment?
Health packages of top labs like metropolis, thyrocare would have costed way lesser (1000 to 1500rs) with all the above tests plus some additional ones.

This is a question to be asked to the businessmen and not the doctors.

Okay, seems like I have been overcharged to put it mildly. And assuming they haven't made a mistake.

This is Malathi Manipal Hospital in Jayanagar. Publishing their name so that it helps others to be careful.

Wrote a feedback to their COO. Lets see what he has to say.

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

We recently got to know that my 8yo son has got long-sight (power at 3+ in both the eyes) and he has started wearing specs for past 1 week.

He has already been doing eye exercises for quite sometime now. The eye exercises are regular ones like staring, blinking, eye-rotation, focusing near and far objects alternatively etc.,

Question (silly it might sound) is: Now that he has specs, should these exercises be done with the specs or can be done without?

On a side-note: This came as a surprise to us and the doctor told that it is hereditary as my wife also had been wearing specs from her young age.

The lock-down resulted in all the school and activities happening via iPad/laptop which didn't require him to see distant objects. If it was normal school, either he himself or his teachers would have complained about his inability to see the board.

My suggestion to fellow-BHPians who are parents to young kids: Do a simple eye-test for your kids at home. And, if you see something suspicious, take the kid to a doctor soon.

Thanks!

Can someone here please point me to a psychiatrist in Bangalore who specializes in ADHD ? I don’t want to Google since then I’ll only get the best SEO doctor and not necessarily the best.

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

My son (6yr old) is grinding his teeth during sleep. We got a guard made for his teeth, which he used for 2 months, during which time holes formed in the guard. We got another set made, but the habit of grinding teeth is still continuing. We are trying to avoid all kinds of stress to the child. Is there anything else that could be done?

Sir, it's probably shortsightedness and not as you have mentioned. In our terminology, referred to as myopia and is quite common in this age group. Kindly get him checked for convergence excess ,which I do for my patients, as a Pediatric Ophthalmologist. He should continue with his exercises and limit his screen time (we as parents and caregivers are their role models-if they see us glued to laptops and mobiles, they will happily do the same while keeping house peaceful). Please get his eyes checked yearly-every year in his birthday month-easy to remember.

Thanks.

Thank you, Doctor! Looks like I wrote it wrongly. Yes, he is unable to see distant objects clearly. As I had mentioned, had it been normal school, this, probably, could have been detected earlier.

On the screen-time - yes, we have limits set for this (even prior to getting to know about his eye-condition). And also happy to say that he understands and cooperates with us on this - be it on limited screen-time or on the daily eye-exercise routine. He is an avid book-reader (just like us) - and so, lesser screen-time

Can you also answer on the question that I had posted - should the eye exercises be done with the glasses on?
Secondly, is there any other eye-care / exercises that he should be doing?

Thanks again for your detailed post.

Sorry for the late reply. Your son should continue the currently advised exercises with his glasses on. Infact try to make it a family exercise to make it interesting.
He should get his eyes checked atleast once a year, preferably birthday month-makes it easy to remember.
Please do feel to get in touch with me for any further information.
Thank you

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

A question to the dentists

I went to get a cheek/mouth pain checked and a cavity was discovered in an upper wisdom tooth. I could see the cavity in the mirror but I didn't feel any pain when the dentist tapped and poked that tooth or gum. The dentist is suggesting I get the tooth extracted since the root canal for a wisdom tooth is not easy and expensive. Is that the correct approach? I remember reading somewhere that one should try to preserve the real tooth and extraction should be the last option. So asking here.

Take a second opinion ! Logic, and dentists too would opt for extraction as the last option. Where in BLR are you based out of ?

I would have gone to my trusted dentist only. Just that he practices in Manipal and I am not sure if I should go there during Covid. The crowd there is still the same apparently. I stay in South East Bangalore.
