Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

My 8.5 years daughter has one of her permanent tooth coming out of jaw (picture attached) as her milk tooth didn't give way and still firm (although a part had broken). I understand that milk tooth would be extracted by my family dentist (or a specialist dentist/hospital?)

But my question apart from tooth extraction is, what other procedure would she be requiring to get a not so deformed denture or would everything be okay on its own?

Thanks.

Just checked the other side and it's the same issue.

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Hello!

To Periodontists / Dentists / Previous patients

Any recommendations in Bangalore to get a periodontal gum flap surgery done?

I am right now in Qatar, the dentist here recommended to get it done in India saying very common with people in India especially ones chewing tobacco, so the person doing the surgery would have enough practice. He added that it is not at all common in this region.

So, I am considering to get it done in Bangalore.

Anyone with any previous experience do share
- what to watchout for,
- best practices for a healthy recovery,
- any tips
- approx cost (For both upper and lower jaw)
- is it done in 2 sittings or 4? is 4 going to be a strain?
- is it advisable to get it in a dental college (in case there are some other complications or to have my wisdom tooth pulled out? - there is one lying at the end, but not causing any issues right now)

Anything helpful is much appreciated.
and maybe some reassurance is helpful.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

I've several Dentist cousins and they say its common surgery for gum issues. I wanted to avoid it.

So until you can make it out there, I can share the following insight.

I avoided having to need the gum flap surgery by using 2 ayurvedic solutions:

1 - Triphala + Water Solution, boiled and reduced to half

2 - Oil swishing/ pulling/ holding - Ideally with Irimedadi Oil or good ole Sesame Oil.

As per several studies they are equivalent / better than Chlorihexidine solution.

If you have any abscess or so, it will further help as well.

PS: These are simple things you can add twice daily, until you can seek out the surgical intervention you want/ need.

Thank you for those inputs. If I can avoid the surgery, I am all for it.

If I may ask, when you were recommended a flap surgery, what was the condition of your gums, mild/moderate/severe?

As per my doc, I am past the moderate stage, so I am wondering how much I can salvage, delay going under the knife. Ability for the body to heal well was another factor that was pushing me to get it done sooner. I am nearly 40.

I am not suggesting you avoid it, but until you can get to a doc, the above can help.

Because I personally had them to help and check I could cautiously take the other route out.

I am not sure how I can term the stages, but my understanding is that there are "acute dental issues" versus "gum issues" due to issues in ones biochemistry.

I did not have a single bad tooth, but gum issues due to health issues.

They above solutions are simple daily items, so they are not going to be in conflict with your usualy dental stuff; it will probably augment / complement whatever you do going forward.

If/ when you are not in Mid East and wish to see Vaidyas in Bangalore then they can assess from their PoV how your gums are wrt your health etc.

Someone very close to me needs medical advice, and I believe you guys can!

Hello everyone,

I pondered over last 5 months before raising this issue for everyone here to assist me with.

Who is this person: My Aunt

2015-2020: Was suffering from frozen shoulders (very little), little tightness at the back, and pain in the legs. Also, we realized sudden onset of her not being comfortable with heat (direct sunlight or hot water baths) which was contrary to her way of life earlier where heat would not deter her in anyway or any kind of food. Also, she started to feel that she wasn't getting full breaths as her body would not allow her to stretch her chest fully

The problems rose to the levels where exposure to direct sunlight would almost give her burning sensations across her body (from inside) and only applying some water or taking a cold shower would help.

I tried to take her to a physiotherapist or someone who can help diagnose what was wrong with her but, she due to an episode with two doctors who decided to directly give pain injections in both her legs without diagnosing the issue properly and the high pain afterwards caused her to lose all her trust in bone doctors in general (please do not frown upon her for this, as she always has trusted doctors the most and did not ever stop me from seeking medical intervention for myself whenever necessary or even for herself or her father for other symptoms).

Everything was still manageable but, she had limited her activities.

2020:

Covid Lockdown is declared. We are all at home. She makes up her mind and decides to start exercise on her own. Stretching exercises mostly. It does show remarkable results. Her leg pain in both the legs is now almost gone and she's elated to find this freedom from limping. This took around 4-5 months

She decides to tackle her back and frozen shoulders now. Stretching exercises begin. But, soon after, she starts telling us that she is able to feel knots and sensations across muscles in her body at the back especially when she sleeps or is lying around for long period of time. I confirmed it used to be there before but, now it's more pronounced

I do ask her to check it out with doctors but, due to covid we are not able to

Meanwhile, her father's situation deteriorates and he dies of heart failure in October 2020 at the age of 84. The man who didn't talk much to her all these years spent most of his time (last 2-3 months) just talking to her over the phone and in person. He would tell her all the things that we wanted to and felt like but he was not fearful of impeding death. He was staying with us from last 9 years

After Grandfather's Death

Initially, aunt was sobbing most of the time, and rightly so. Within a month or two she started to recover from the grief but those KNOTS and Moving-Like MUSCLES at the back, sides of the upper body and even at the chest and abdomen is she slept on the front now started to harass her.

2021

The knotting, moving-like muscle sensations on the muscles that I mentioned above, now started to give her a really tough time. She also started to get tightness and burning sensations in the affected areas.

In frustration she tried some excruciating stretching exercises of shoulders and back to find some respite from this unusual symptoms but that did not help either and instead affected her muscles a little more I feel.

Finally, in February 2021, she confided in us of all the problems she was facing, and that's how our journey to get diagnosis for all her issues started!

Feb 2021 - August 2021

1. All her bloodwork came normal
2. No diabetes
3. Thyroid was a little out of control but was rapidly bought under control
4. Dexa Scan Normal
5. Full Spine MRI was said normal by the doctor but, Discs C 2-3 and C 5-6 have bulge
6. 2d Echo normal
7. Stomach is normal as per gastroenteritis
8. Lung function and breath quality is normal as per pulmonologist

Diagnosis from most doctors:
- Muscle Weakness at the back causing all problems
- One doctor without looking at any reports said Spondolysis

What symptoms she is showing as of now:

1. Burning sensation, muscular movements and tenderness at the upper back, sides of the upper body and chest and abdomen, if she sleeps or sits with pressure applied on any of these parts for more than 10-15 minutes

2. High sensitivity to sun-heat and certain foods that contain maida

3. No sleep because of discomfort, tightness and pain

Can you please help me comprehend this? She's been having a mix of many pills to control her symptoms but, changing/altering pills mostly affects her devastatingly. She's so frustrated with many doctor's visits that she does not even want to meet any new one now. I am at loss of direction. Can you help in anyway? If yes, please do.

Medicines which she is having right now:

1. Eposoft E (twice daily)
2. Pregaba M (once at night)
3. Supracal Pro (once at night)
4. Nexito 5mg (once at night)
5. Dolo 650 (once at night)

along with:

6. Restyl (before sleep)
7. Zolfresh (before sleep)

A certain prescription I found to have worked best on her but was changed by the doctor leading to her symptoms coming back was as follows:

1. Oleanz 2.5mg (twice a day)
2. Divazep (once a day)
3. Duzela (once a day)
4. Gabator NT 400

Help!

I'm not a doctor so I can only make an informed guess. Many of the symptoms are consistent with that of Multiple Sclerosis. Was a spinal tap done as part of previous diagnosis? Please google MS and see if you / your aunt can identify any similarities. I believe the symptoms do point out to issues with the nervous system.

Please consult other specialists in case you feel the ones your aunt has seen so far were not able to diagnose correctly. Despite the best of intentions, i don't see how most of us, who lack medical know how, can comment on possible therapy.

Of course, there are many qualified specialists on this forum who may stumble upon this request and offer help. Please have your aunt consult them directly.
All the best!

You can have her try physiotherapy (with the help of a qualified professional, not self exercise) and Ayurveda. It might not cure the underlying condition but can help in improving the quality of life of the person.

My take on this,
Meet a good psychiatrist.

I don’t think any doctor will be able to give any professional advice in the forum without seeing the patient though.

If this was not pandemic times, would have suggested ayurvedic treatment to alleviate her pain.
From personal experience, would recommend the following ayurvedic hospital in Kerala.

Dear Dinesh

While you have asked the forum to help you with the challenges your aunt is facing, I would be wary of providing any kind of medical specific advice without having met the patient, go through case history in detail, look at past factors, etc

I would recommend that you arrange for a consultation with a neurologist first. And then based on her/his recommendation proceed forward. Google is the most disastrous doctor that you can ever reach out to

Please do this at the earliest as the condition can change very quickly esp when it comes to neurological issues.

Re: Someone very close to me needs medical advice, and I believe you guys can!

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your valuable inputs. I am overwhelmed with your kind responses.

I want you all to know that we have tried meeting 5 different doctors in last 7 months dealing with ortho, neuro and rheumatology.

Doctor 1 (ortho) said, "Spondylosis"
Doctor 2 (neuro) said, "Muscle weakness, tenderness and spasm"
Doctor 3 (rheumatologist) "Muscle weakness and spasm"
Doctor 4 (spine surgeon) said, "All psychological"
Doctor 5 (rheumatologist) said, "Fybromyalgia"

Such conflicting outcomes!

What I have observed is, most of them reply a little rudely my aunt complains patiently of not having been slept for last so many months due to discomfort, they tell her TO RELAX and calm down. Being a patient impacted with Sciatica, which is a painful mechanical issue, I myself know how tough it could be to trying to sleep when the affected part burns, pinches and tingles in pain. I have to tell you that people here do not even try to asses patient history or mindset in detail.

Now with the frustration attached in this situation it is becoming tough for us to seek more engagement on part of the patient in diagnosing the issue.

Hence, what I am looking for is, if any of you, or people you know ever suffered from such an issue? Did you see any recovery? What worked and what did not?

I do know that with TEAM-BHP being a car forum, I am suppose to take all responses with a sense of responsibility and not act fast on any but, I also know that with so many members here with varied life experiences, maybe, I will find what I am looking for.
