Thanks.

My mother laughed at the suggestion of a walking stick, saying it is for old people . I didn't have the heart to tell her the truth.

And what constitutes good nutrition for her age and condition?

Her regular diet is like Chappati/bread or rice products like Upma, idli with milk and sweetmeat for breakfast.
Lunch with rice, dal, sabji, legumes and fish.
Dinner same as lunch.
Seasonal fruits and curd is included everyday.

Anything specific to suggest?

Re: Metal Crowns?

The 3 unit porcelain crown placed on my lower molar teeth has cracked and needs replacement. So, now am contemplating to go for metal crowns as I feel they are unbreakable and also less expensive than ceramic.

So, would like to know apart from aesthetics, are there any disadvantages, going with metal crowns? What could be the approx. cost of 3 unit metal crown vs porcelain crown?

Any suggestions for clinics in south bengaluru, especially around JP Nagar, please?

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Hi,

My brother in law was saying for sometime that he feels a kind of pulling-like sensation in his testis, but not actually a pain. But this only happens occassionally but not constant.

He was discussing this with me and I felt he better consult a doctor. However, we are unsure of the type of specialty he should be consulting with. Would appreciate if anyone could answer this question.

Thank you.

Hey! He should probably see a general surgeon.

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

A couple of days back, a filling on one of my wisdom teeth began to chip off. No pain or sensitivity, but saw a dentist. The recommendation is to extract the tooth, saying there is only one surface remaining out of five, so a filling cannot be attempted.

I would like to retain the tooth. Is an RCT possible to save the tooth?

My wife (dentist) recommends extracting the wisdom tooth as it lacks much functionality and hence RCT is not required.

It costed me 1500 for one crown in July 2021 at Mumbai (Virar). He did an excellent job

Note, the gums may start receding and hence need to be massaged near the crown area. Floss daily once at night after brushing and brush after 45 mins of eating and not earlier.

Replacement of crown should be done every 5-10 (recommended by dentists but not sure if it should be)

Years?

I have a mouthful of crowns, and I think most of them are over 15 years old. Have never heard of of any sort of "routine" replacement. None of my dentists would have disturbed something that is absolutely fine.

(mine are ordinary ceramic crowns: nothing fancy)

Yes. Even mine was 15+ year old but then there was some infection around the base of it.

The crown by itself doesn't cause a problem but since the tooth is root canaled and dead, infection or other gum issue may go unnoticed until it spreads to surrounding areas and causes pain.

In short, it's not necessary to do but atleast get them checked.

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Back in 2019, I had my wisdom tooth removed, right side lower one. Don't know if there should be an upper one but from the last 6 months or so, whenever I chew something from the right side, even soft items, it hurts and pain is something like a mix of nerve pain, the sensitivity kind and actual physical pain. If I keep up with my day-night brushing, the issue subsides a bit. Else, it's kind of persistent now.
Secondly, I have a cap on a tooth which was installed in 2013. It's been holding up pretty well so far. Should I get it replaced, just for good measure, or what?

My first crown has been with me 22 years now. None of my dentists have mentioned periodic replacement.

Not a medical person, just a guy with teeth. I'd say get them checked at least once a year. Tooth and gum health check-up.

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Hi all, I am getting severe elbow pain on right hand after more than an hour drive in car. This has started just 6 months back. Happens with both Manual and Automatic cars. I drive using just right hand because I don't get enough steering control with both hands. The pain is somewhere near the "lateral epicondyle". What could be the remedies? The driver side door armrest is useless in my car.

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

My cousin got diagnosed with anemia today (Haemoglobin 8.8) - Doctor said to take 10 iron injections & wrote down a prescription for Vitcofol & asked to get it tomorrow. I went to the medical shop & the vitcofol he has is this - https://www.1mg.com/drugs/vitcofol-injection-114256 -this doesn't seem to be iron. He says he has another vitcofol which is Vitcofol-S which is Iron Sucrose. But doc just seems to have written Vitcofol.

So I am a confused now as to which to buy to take tomorrow morning. And doctor seems to be not reachable now. Does any doc here know which one is given for low hemoglobin?

Not in JP Nagar, but Indiranagar . Dr Shylesh Shetty at Excellence Dental (CMH Road). He is very well regarded and an excellent endodontist. It will be worth travelling that 15 kms to his place, highly recommended. Incidentally I stay in JP Nagar as well but do travel to him for any endodontic needs.
