PFM can be noble or non noble metal ones.

The non noble metal ones use nickel-chromium alloy.

Dentists also give options of noble metal ones.

PFMs if done well (and you maintain them with proper dental visits) should last a lifetime.

BTW, what's the typical life span of a human?

Why is it people always ask dentists for guarantees for any kind of work? No one asks a cardiologist, ent, ophthalmologist, etc for a guarantee...
Dentists don't sell fans and ACs!

What is the approximate cost of crowns which are high noble?
I know different dentists charge different rates, but what's a ballpark figure? At a dentist who charges Rs. 3000 for a nickel-chromium PFM, how much would the charge be for High Noble PFM crown?

How frequently should one visit a dentist for checking the crown?

Just trying to get an idea about the average crown - is it supposed to last life long or does it have to be replaced after 'X' years or whatever?
I understand that there will always be exceptions on either side.

I charge 9500 for a good non precious PFM and 18K for noble. Do the math.

If you are dental disease free and your dentist is happy with your levels of oral hygiene, then 6 monthly. Otherwise 3-4 monthly for just a clean up.

A week back I got a pimple in my left armpit which was kind of normal because I have seen this before also since I suspect it is to do with the Deo use. But they would usually disappear when I applied skin cream. But this time it refused to go away and the pain due to the pimple persisted. It stayed for nearly a week and it pained whenever I lifted my arm up straight. About two days back I saw that the pimple is kind of gone but it still pains when I lift up my arm and when I examine in its place I feel a wire like vein/nerve close to skin(I can't observe this in the other arm). From yesterday the nerve actually stands out quite clearly when I stretch that arm fully and there is a dull pulling pain as though that nerve is getting pulled, so I can't stretch my left arm fully without pain. Today that pain has spread from just the armpit to the elbow(along that taut nerve which I can feel with fingers all the way until elbow). Don't know what could be wrong. Is this some inflammation or reaction of the nerve?

Guys, please let's not get into recommendations on the thread. Good or bad experiences with doctors should not be posted either.
If people ask for a recommendation, i suggest reply via PM.

Tejas, my teeth were totally problem free for 33 years. But last 5-6 years have been really a pain.
I have had 7-8 fillings done, some of them redone after 3-4 years because the fillings got spoilt(came out, don't remember).
Again am having 3-4 more new fillings to be done next week.
Got a RootCanal+Crown done a month back.

What can I do to avoid/reduce future problems? Is there any toothpaste/toothbrush which is better than the others. I usually use Colgate-Cibaca toothpaste with a soft brush. I brush once a day only :-(. I have tried to start brushing at night, but feel too lazy after a full dinner!! I do not floss - should I be flossing?

How many minutes should one brush per session? Would occasion gargling with Chlorhexidine or Povidone kind of mouthwash help?

AFAIK, These viruses don't survive in the open for long in dry conditions. and you won't get infected with Hep-B by invasion of virus from air or food/water. It spreads like how AIDS spreads.

No idea about the booster dose.

Hepatitis B is the most hardiest virus ever and can survive in the spore form for a long time. They are killed only by boiling instruments for atleast 20 minutes (20 minutes once water starts boiling).

AFAIK, booster dose to hep B is required for health care workers and people at risk (who handle blood and instruments).

Whatever I learnt on the internet so far points to this same thing. Isn't it a coincidence that the person who told me I will need a booster shot is a nurse!

Slipped and fell couple of days back. Used my right hand to break the fall, hence right upper arm had lot of pain. Didn't experience any loss of strength in the arm or fingers or wrist. The pain was in the upper right arm, an inch below the shoulder. Took few combiflams.

After 24 hours, no pain on pressing the area or anything, but paining when I lift my arm & try to make it parallel the ground. No other movement except upward movement pains. Went to the doctor - he gave some meds to take for 1 day & said that if movement isn't free in 24 hours more, take a AP & lateral digital X-Ray of Right shoulder to make sure there isn't any hairline fracture. However, doctor didn't seem bothered. He didn't ask me to visit him again or anything.

Took an X-Ray today which came out clean. Radiologist told me that ligament injuries don't show up in the X-Ray but only in ultrasound.

My question to any doctors here is
- been around 48 hours since the injury.
- Moving the arm to make it horizontal pains, but no other problems.

Should I wait for sometime for the injury to heal itself or should I visit the doctor again & see if he recommends any further tests?

Inguinal Hernia - Information Needed.

Just came to know that my younger brother (22 yrs.) has developed Inguinal Hernia (possibly because of inactivity and overweight) and a surgery to repair the same has been recommended by a General Physician. I wonder if any of the fellow TBHPians or their relatives/friends have gone through the repair procedure. I'm trying to look for the following information:

1.) Approximate Cost
2.) Approximate Recovery Time (for regular activities and to return to work (he's to start his first job in a couple of months))
3.) Any precautions to be taken before/after the procedure
4.) Any questions to be asked to the surgeon

My family is waiting for me to return to India (sometime in next 2-3 months) before letting him take up the repair surgery. The location of treatment would be either Mumbai or Jalandhar (Punjab). Any inputs/suggestions are appreciated.
