Well, thats what doctors are supposed to do,Community service. So we do try to help but everything has some constraints esp when it comes to a problem that can be diagnosed on physical examination. So its always good to get in touch with a local fellow. And yes we do have patience as we have to deal with patients!

re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Hi,

I have a query on the long term usage of antacids.

I suffer from hyper acidity due to hectic work schedule and irregular eat/sleep cycles. I have been using Zinetac 300mg 1 tablet per day from last one year. Will this usage have any long-term side affects?

I'll suggest that you take Proton Pump Inhibitors(PPIs) for long term usage.Take 20mg Rabeprazole once daily empty stomach in morning.

Question:
Does this (cyl/axis) get corrected - or change (increase) with time ? Reason I ask is - I also need to go for progressives. If the cyl/axis reading will change in about a year, to more steady values, then I would like to explore the option of getting only the short-sight (my long-time condition) for now, and go for a good pair of progressives later.
Sorry for the late reply, hadn't checked this thread in a while. Would be easier if I had your entire prescription. Could you PM me the same?

Why don't you try a unani medicine free of side effect, you can use hamdard jawarish kamuni, for acidity. Take it after both meals or in the morning. It will also help your stomach.

This thread is only for scientific medicine. There is a separate thread for alternative medicine - http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/shifti...t-options.html

You mean to say this thread is for Allopathic medicine, right? Well unani is also based on science. Anyway I got your point.

Thanks for the suggestion BoneCollector.

Can you also answer my question? I have been using Zinetac daily since one year. Will this usage have any long term affects?

Thanks Samy. I will check this option. Any diet related precautions to be taken while using this medicine?

I hope your usage of Ranitidine continously for one year has been under medical supervision. If not, you first need to consult a gastroenterologist who will do an evaluation as to the cause of your symptoms and advise appropriate medication.

I think Zinetac is Ranitidine not Cimetedine (wife used to take all kinds of acid medication till some years back)

Anyway, I thought PPI's would totally eclipsed the older generation antacids by now. Just out of curiosity, can any of the doctors here say why someone would be prescribed a Rantac or a Tagamet instead of one of the PPIs?

Yes, you are right. Zinetac is Ranitidine. I noticed the mistake and as the 20 min "edit" window was still on, corrected it.

Edit - Makes no sense. I think it is a combination of costs, doctors not updating themselves and availability as an OTC drug which still is keeping Ranitidine going. But, to my knowledge prescriptions of Ranitidine have drastically come down.

I have a question on behalf of my wife. She is getting allergic rashes on her hands after using dishwasher detergent. Is there any permanent solution for this other than continuously using a cortisone containing cream or wearing gloves? It would be helpful if we have a non-allergic detergents in the market?

Yes. But it was a GP and not a gastroentrologist. I consulted a gatroenterologist this weekend. Need to go this week again after the results.
