Dentist visited him in the ICU & after having a look was of the opinion that though broken teeth could cause infection but it was unlikely that this particular infection was caused by these broken teeth.He has suggested extraction at a later stage as the Specialist (Medicine) had ruled against any cuts or surgeries until the infection is completely gone.
The doctor also said that the Dentist were going to do some ultrasonic treatment.Though I am not sure but I guess it is scaling or is it some different treatment?

I just had a cap fitted after going through a root canal about 3-4 weeks back.

The first week with the cap was nice i.e. no discomfort, etc. and I've been using that side for chewing quite regularly. Yesterday, I had a slight discomfort on that tooth/cap. Is it possible that the sealing inside (the one using which the cap was fitted on - some kind of cement) is broken? It's just a slight discomfort when i tap it with my nails nothing else. Also, it's better now.

I want to know whether it is possible to get the same cap refitted? I've paid 3.5K for that cap and losing it within the week is not something I'd like to do !!

ya, it's scaling only using an ultrasonic scaler. Nothing to do with ultrasound though, just routine cleaning.

Kalpesh, just ask the doctor to adjust the occlusion. It seems that you are biting first on a high point on the cap and theN the rest of the teeth.

Hey Bro, Yes I am physio but my role in the bodybuilding/fitness thread would be very limited due to my area of specialization. I can try and help on any orthopedic conditions like the ones i mentioned above.

Hey Tejas - i had some extreme pain in 2nd last lower tooth (on right side) after eating food. None of my wisdom teeth are out. Morning i put clove oil and pain was gone. In eve pain was back, went to a dentist and she took an xray and said nothing was wrong in my last and 2nd last tooth fillings, its a wisdom tooth in lower right which is coming out and maybe causing pain.
She finally gave me twice a day for 3 days painkiller and antibiotic (novaclox 500mg and diclomol).
My question - is it normal for a wisdom tooth to cause pain in 2nd last tooth which is not even adjacent to it?
and is that novaclox dosage for 3 days (twice a day) or more. Cause chemist gave novaclox strip of 9 (dosage for 3 days 3 times a day)?? The prescription is un-readable!
Should i put some clove oil for the pain (on which tooth, wisdom or the paining tooth?). I am not really into pain killer and anti-biotics, but taking em now without any relief in pain so far.

Hi jassi: You seem to have a condition called pericoronitis, which is an infection of the little flap of gum covering an erupting or impacted wisdom tooth. And yes, you can have referred pain in an adjacent tooth or even in the whole lower law AND/OR the upper jaw because of this.

Novaclox is recommended at doses of 3 times daily for 5 - 7 days. Before you use the antibiotic, try brushing the area well with a soft (sensitive) tooth brush, use a hot saline mouthbath 4-5 times daily, and use an anti-inflammatory tablet like Diclomol or Brufen 400 3 times daily for 2 days. If you feel better, you may just avoid using the antibiotic.

Hey SS - thanks for the quick response - i thought tejas was the only dentist on this thread well i just had my first dose of novaclox + diclomol after dinner. I guess can't stop the anit-biotic now.
Also the dosage given to me is 2 times a day for 3 days. So should do i stick to that or go for 3 times daily for 5-7 days as you suggested? I am confused now.
Also yes the dentist did ask me to rinse with hot water (with salt added) at night before sleep.

PS - the novaclox i am having is by okasa pharma and has 250mg amoxycillin and 250mg dicloxacillin

any urologists on forum? I am looking for precautions to take in 30s and 40s so it doesn't develop in a serious condition later. specially for somebody who has a higher risk genetically.

Don't worry - have the Novaclox 3 times a day for at least 5 days. Anything less and you are likely to develop resistant bacteria in your system, which Novaclox won't be able to eliminate if used at a later date.

PS - the novaclox i am having is by okasa pharma and has 250mg amoxycillin and 250mg dicloxacillin

The generic drug seems to be fine...

Does she have a few teeth left, or are all her teeth taken out? Any denture that is made well will do the job. Don't skimp on the material quality, go for something good that your dentist might recommend to you - cheaper acrylic materials crack more easily, and can sometimes cause an allergic reaction in the mouth. A specialist who can make good dentures is called a prosthodontist - you might want to look for one in your local area.

Am I allowed to ask about dental costs in this thread? I'd like to get a handle on whether what I'm being charged is too much...

I had a crowned upper canine tooth and, due to bite problems, I broke off the crown which had been placed, some years back, on a live tooth. The tooth was broken down to the gum line, so nothing to support a new crown.

The root was healthy, no infection, so the root canal treatment was relatively simple. A post was placed, and a temporary crown to cover it. The new permanent crown was fitted last week.

Cost... root canal + post + temp crown + crown: Rs.7,100. I'd been expecting less, but haven't had any crowns for a few years, and I guess life has got more expensive.

Root canal treatment = 2-3k, post = 1-1.5k, temp crown = 0.5-0.8k, porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crown = 3-5k. Nick, I would think your total bill is not astronomical, but slightly above rock-bottom rates. Par prices for a good dentist.

thanks SS - i had 1 cap of novaclox on sat night and 2 on sunday - so that adds to 1 days dosage of 3 so far. Will have the remaining 12 (3 caps a day for next 4 days). Hope thats fine (total of 3X5=15)

PS - by the way all my molars (including the aching one) are still impacted and under the gums. I am 29 years now!
