Is the extraction mandatory? I detest it. If it something can be done without pulling out the existing parts of the tooth, I d probably go with it. I ll tell you why I m saying this, though I know most people will scoff at me.
I have seen quite a few people, who, after extraction, have always complained of one problem or the other with the tooth adjoining the extracted one. I have seen this happen with different dentists at different locations.

Hence I m a bit skeptical.

Help! Pain and stiffness in index finger!

I just could not press the dispenser of a perfume bottle with my right hand index finger the other day!
This is probably due to frequent use of the computer i.e. use of mouse and it's scroller. Also I use the amateur style of typing(with only the index fingers of both hands).

Please help!

@mods: Please move to appropriate thread if necessary.

I was suffering from a similar painful condition in my right finger index around 5-6 month back, I knew it was due to excessive mouse clicks which resulted in an injury called as Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) . It is a potentially debilitating condition resulting from overusing the hands to perform a repetitive task, such as typing, writing, or clicking a mouse. Anyone who uses a computer regularly is at risk RSI.
After this I have changed the way I use my fingers to operate mouse by changing it to a net book/laptop click buttons.
If I am using a desktop then I use my middle finger to click mouse instead of the index finger. Basically I try to avoid the usage of index finger to a great extend. Now since last 2 months the pain has gradually reduced and its almost normal.
I hope these simple tips will help in managing our condition.

I have personally felt that use of a touchpad is highly advantageous compared to a mouse. I have stopped ouse for last 5 years and have had no problems. I had this pain back in 2005 when I was using mouse though. I use right hand to navigate and left thumb/index finger to click (the button is at the bottom of the touch pad).

coming back to your finger, give it rest, and take it to a specialist. They can decide what's best for you.

PS: use your thumb for the perfume today

Whoa!!! This is really a surprise to me as I spend about 10+ hours everyday with system & haven't felt this even a single day. Like you said Jayabusa, I type with only 4-5 fingers, right hand middle, index & thumb + left hand index & thumb.

How many hours are you guys spending? Is it 10+ or more? I'm asking to avoid any such problems from occuring to me.

I must be spending 3-4 or max. 5 hours in a day(general surfing) with lavish use of the scroller for opening tabs and scrolling.

Get your ergonomics right.
My physio suggests using the trackball instead of the mouse.

Hmmm...may be I got used to I guess. I nearly spend about 10+ hours easily for over 5 years now.

Oh!!! BTW, I don't forget to exercise the fingers by resting in between, closing the palms & stretch out. I hope you're doing this.

Do you have one of those ergonomically desgined mousepads. I have one and it provides a support at the wrist area putting lesser pressures on the fingers. I hope you must have consulted a doctor for the pain.

Also as @aargee suggested you need to exercise your fingers every now and then. Its not just the fingers, you need to do the same for your neck & back too.

Guys, my sleep was disturbed today at about 3:45am due to a unbearable pain the the center of the left chest. I have got such pains a few times when running or having a physical exercise in the last 2-3 years but never severe like the one I got about an hour back. I had unbearable pain while taking long breaths so I was taking continuously short breaths. After about 15 minutes, I hit my fists to my chest due to which I guess the pain stopped. Any solution guys?

P.S : I am a 17 year old teen and a non-smoker if that might help. Also, I am currently having a temprature of about 100F.

EDIT : Just checked this url, Angina pectoris (chest pain) which mentions that one of the symptoms could be "a heavy meal" which I had yesterday night.

See a doctor is what I would suggest.
Such pains can also be caused by acute gastritis.

A general note to all:

When your doctor asks you your past medical history, PLEASE tell all of it. Don't miss out stuff because you think it's unimportant. Let your doctor be a judge of that.

Chipped Tooth
My 7 yr old has chipped his front tooth while playing. Its about 1/6 of the portion on the top front tooth (biting teeth). Since this is a permanent tooth I am a little worried.
What do the experts on t-bhp recommend as a solution ?

Can anyone recommend any good skin specialist in Ahmedabad? If not possible openly, then by PM.
