Dr. Paramesh of Lakeside Hospital used to be my preferred pediatrician for my kids when I used to live in Bangalore. He is a very respected doc in that side of the city though it might be quite a distance for you to visit from your place.

Dr Khateeb in Frazer town (Kenchappa road, opp east rly stn), he also visits Columbia Asia, yesvantpur.

I am blessed with twin baby boys last month and have met him once, was quite impressed with him.( i am a pharmacologist).He does not prescribe antibiotics unless required, very calm and composed guy.

If travelling is not a problem, Dr.Kishore Das, Columbia Asia, Hebbal. One of the best i have seen atleast. Diagnosis very well. Prescribes medicines only if necessary. He is also available in RT nagar.

No.He is not attached to lakeside any more.

Almost all lakeside docs have shifted to Columbia Asia now and Dr Khateeb is one among them.

My wife also use to work at Lakeside hospital few years back.

Question to dentists - My dentist has prescribed Stolin Gum Astringent - he asked me to massage it on my gums. I assumed there will be instructions with the bottle, but there isn't any except to massage on gums as instructed by the dentist. My dentist is away for a couple of weeks, so can't ask him, so if anyone here can help me with these questions.

- How long to massage it for - i.e. how many minutes?
- After massaging it, should I rinse my mouth or let the thing be there?
- If I should let it be there, how long?

These products give temporary relief from bleeding gums but don't treat the cause. So patient gets a false sense of well being and doesn't go to the dentist until the condition becomes too bad. The patient will also advice his friends use XYZ product, it stopped my bleeding and no need to go to the dentist. So the cycle continues! It's like taking a crocin/metacin for high fever without taking antibiotics. It will give relief from symptoms but not kill the bacteria.

The most effective cure for bleeding is scaling.

Actually, I did not have any gum bleeding when I was prescribed this - at least not that I know of or complained to the dentist about. This was actually prescribed after my dentist did a routine cleaning & scaling of my teeth. Considering I am not using it to mask any symptoms - should I still skip this? Does this have any other benefits?

No. Do not use it. Gum massaging was stopped atleast 20 years ago as a treatment protocol. Your normal food massages the gums enough.

I visited a dentist yesterday for routine check up and cleaning.

The dentist told me that I have a condition known as deep bite. The dentist explained to me what deep bite means and suggested me to get it corrected by orthodontic procedure. (I have visited many other dentists in the past but this is the first time when someone told me about this problem)

I want to know how important is it to get this corrected and what complications may arise if it is left uncorrected. My age is 31.

My lower teeth are all aligned properly. But my upper incisors are slightly slanted inwards and slightly offset to the left side. Because of this, my upper left canine is slightly misaligned and slightly protruding out.

I don't know if this is related, but I have got both my lower wisdom teeth extracted about 6-7 years back. Their alignment was not proper and hence the dentist suggested to get them extracted.

Apart from the above mentioned conditions, my teeth are otherwise healthy - no cavities or decay.

Gentleman dentists, I'm talking to a lady on another forum who is thinking of coming from Europe for implant surgery. What shocks me is that her European dentist has given her the idea that drilling the hole and placing the implant is not a big deal compared to making the crown.

My point of view: this is not only surgery, but precision surgery. Not only must the standards of hygiene and sterility be high (my London implant surgeon told me, "we're putting something in; that's much more dangerous than taking something out") but that implant has got to fit accurately.

Tell me I'm right?

They're not related apart from the fact that your teeth in general are misaligned, which included your (now extracted) wisdom teeth.

Correcting a deep bite through orthodontic procedure is the accepted method, since there are detrimental effects (esp. accelerated tooth wear aka attrition) eith increasing age. You're 31, which is an acceptable age for orthodontic management, though the treatment time may be longer than if the same treatment was done at say age 13-14. The other issue that might bother you is the aesthetics while wearing braces (the "Jassi" look ), but there are options for that, such as tooth coloured brackets etc. (just that they are more expensive).

NOTHING is a big deal, Nick, if the person doing it knows what s/he is doing. For a fresher BDS, filling a cavity is a big deal, and for a lot of members here, changing a headlamp bulb is also a big deal. Similarly, whether placing the implant or making the crown, both are easy provided it's done in the right hands. Maybe the lady's European dentist has had "crowning problems" in the past.

Dear Tejas, I have one question. Today my wife was eating something and it had small stone and it came between her teeth and one of the tooth upper side broken little bit and it is exposing some sharp edges and it is quite uncomfortable for her.

What in this case we can do? Is there any way to smoothen that surface of tooth?

Go to your dentist and get the tooth diagnosed and fixed.

If it is really annoying her, take a small piece of wet sand paper (fine grit) and smoothen it very slightly till you get to your dentist. Rinse out sand dust.
