re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Does any one know of a good Rheumatologist that we can consult in Bangalore?

Case of AS (Ankylosing spondylitis) and suffering with pain.

I was suggested not to go for surgery since it may lead to regrowth. However, when I use my left hand(wrist) to lift pretty heavy objects or do any work that involves usage of wrists(except typing keyboard/mobile), it hurts.

Requesting Docs to suggest/advice so that I can get back to doing normal activities without pain.
Hi Akhil,
I am an ortho surgeon from Kerala. I suggest that you apply a pain balm over the swelling and rub it gently. It might disappear! Or else you can also do warm saline soaks. Only if it is very painful or size increases suddenly, you should go for surgery. There is nothing to be scared or worried about it. Many people have it.

Thanks Ramesh for your kind advice.
I m doing the same. Weekly once I religiously apply pain balms(mostly Volini, Iodex etc) and after 30 mins soak in warm water in which rock salt has been dissolved. The problem is that the pain starts if pressure is exerted on the wrists.

So wanted to know how to get rid of it permanently.
Also, what might be the cause for such condition?

Edit: The cyst(I think that piece of muscle is called so) is almost invisible on my hand even when I fold my wrist(flexed forward)

Hi Ramesh, BoneCollector,
I recently sprained my wrist in a freak accident. The sprain is minor without any swelling and there was mild pain. I am using a crepe bandage for past two weeks. The pain has reduced but its still there, especially when I try to lift an object.

How long does it take a mild wrist sprain to heal? Is there anything else I should try apart from a Crepe Bandage?

Regards.

Any doctors on this forum? please advice.
Hi throttleking,
By what you are saying,i can gather that you have a torn ACL(Anterior Cruciate ligament) and a partially torn meniscus(?medial/lateral).On plain x-ray,ACL tear alone cannot be visualised but if it is associated with anterior tibial spine,a small chip fragment might be seen on x-ray(as in your case). These injuries are missed by quite a many people but you need not worry about it.Since you stay at Pune,i'll ask you to go to Mumbai and meet Dr. Anant Joshi. He is one of the leading Knee joint specialists and a pioneer in Arthroscopic repair of these ailments.I guess he can be contacted on Surgeon Contact: Dr Anant Joshi
Hope your problem gets solved early.
Regards

Hi C300,
Have you got any x-ray done? Also tell me the exact location of your pain as there are numerous bones and ligaments in and around the wrist joint.Anyway,if it is a ligamentous injury involving the volar or dorsal complex,it'll take time to heal.

Many Thanks BoneCollector. you rightly said, earlier small chip fragment was seen on xray and MRI reveals the large ACL avulsion fracture. looking at xray i was given a cast for 4 weeks. it is almost 4months after the cast was removed. What should be the ideal course of action now? I am suffering from extension lag and capsules pain a lot while walking / exercises. leading knee joint expert in pune has given me a plain knee pad and physio for next 4 weeks. Please suggest.

Well, with a torn ACL,walking becomes difficult, esp. climbing up and down the stairs. You might also get a feeling of instability in joint.I'll suggest that you meet him.If required, you'll have to undergo arthroscopic ACL reconstruction and proper physiotherapeutic rehabilitation after that.Extension lag could be due to the bone fragment getting entrapped between both the bones and thereby preventing further extension.Dont worry, these things can be managed.

Maintain the crepe for two more weeks. Usually,it takes about 3 to 4 weeks to heal.

Apply the balm daily. Even if you remove it,there are chances of a recur. It is just fluid collection.

re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

I'm 39, From last two weeks, I get this severe itch in my eyes & I end up rubbing them very roughly. I know its bad but the itch is very irritating & I end up rubbing them & then washing them with very cold water. My left eye is more troublesome. Only twice have my eyea turned red due to rubbing & at that time I could see all the white area turned red with inflamed veins. I realised my folly & gave my eyes an ice pack treatment.
This happens about twice daily but not at fixed time or intervals.
I'm using ITONE but not to much relief.
I have not diabetic etc.

Pls HELP.

Raab Rakha.
P.S.: My wife blames this on TBHP but then that's another story.

@ariesonu- am not a doctor but if dryness is the cause of your symptoms, use Refresh tears for instant relief. They are the same composition as human tears and hence no side effects. The ideal solution apparently is crying on a regular basis but for most of us T-BHP males, that's hardly an option is it now?

There is a thicker version of it called Refresh Liquigel which is more effective for chronic dryness (I have undergone Lasik long ago and suffer from this problem now and then) but I think Refresh Tears should suffice in your case.

Any ophthals on this thread, please correct me if I am wrong.

re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

My 11 year old son has been fitted with dental braces a week ago, after four of his incisors were extracted. There is one particular left upper canine which is way above his other teeth, and an incisor directly under it was extracted to create a slot for it to fit in. The brace fitted on this particular tooth is causing a large painful ulcer in the mouth. The orthodontist suggested to always keep a wad of chewing gum on it, apart from applying painkilling gel. She said this has to be managed till the tooth starts to move down, and there is no other way.

I took him to another dentist to see if the offending brace could be polished, but he said the attempt will remove the brace from the tooth. He also suggested the chewing gum regimen, so I have followed it for the past five days. The ulcer is almost healed now, but the chewing gum has to be in place always. I remove it every morning to enable him to brush, and replace fresh gum afterwards. But even this brief period is causing him discomfort.

Is there a better way to manage this? An internet friend from another forum, a dental surgeon in the Grand Cayman, has suggested placing a ball of orthodontic wax on it. But my son's orthodontist as well as the other dentist I took him to say it is not a good idea.

Apart from this there are no other ulcers, and he seems to be getting comfortable with the braces.

I'm an Ophthalmologist, so here's my take. It may be due to dryness, as already stated. Try using Tear Supplements in the form of eye drops (Refresh Tears/ Tears Plus/ EyeMist) around 4 - 6 times a day. If there is not much relief, then you may have to use thicker supplements in the form of gels (EyeMist Gel/ Refresh Liquigel)

She may be partly right too (Hope you don't get into trouble because of this), Dry eyes are a part of Computer Vision Syndrome
