Re: Pain after GP on 37?

The filling in 37 is done very horribly and needs to be changed. Did you have a complaint of food getting stuck between the two teeth?

Also replace the missing tooth since the molar is tipping and causing the space to open up.
I opted for RC on 37 and i have this flare up after they filled up GP inside the canals. This happened a week back and then, they had removed the GP and irrigated the canals again and left for couple of days. Pain subsided. Yesterday, it has been filled with GP again, and i feel this shooting pain from insides of the tooth. On the first GP i had been advised to take Tresmox and Metrogyl. Now am not on drugs. What might be happening here and how long it might take to resolve? Please advice.

Sharangapani may be a good doctor, but he runs an assembly line.
I visited him around 2 years back - he charged 700-800 Rs at that time. You have to wait for an hour or more even with an appointment. Then one of his people sees you & asks about your problem(about 3 minutes). Then they probably convey the same to him. Then Dr.Sharangpani comes out with another one of his people & talks to you for a minute (if you are lucky). The 2nd half of that 1 minute is spent is telling his person about your cure & then the good doctor goes off. And his person spends around 10 minutes showing you the exercises recommended by the doctor. And gives you a photocopied page containing the exercises.

His treatment is all about exercises, right pillows etc (no medicines). It works for a lot of people, but it all depends on your luck in getting the right diagnosis in that one minute (or half a minute).

re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Urgent query for dentists

I was having severe toothache on the right lower first molar. There was some cavity between the premolar and first molar which has been done 3-4 times in the last 7-8 years increasing in size each time. Its location made it difficult to stay for long but it has stayed for around 1.5 years now.

The throbbing pain increased in intensity for two days and it became almost unbearable. It would stay for 2-3 hours and subside and start again!

I consulted a dentist who said he suspects pus inside the first molar, it hurt when he tapped it with some instrument. He has prescribed levofloxacin BD for 3 days along with etrocoxib 120 BD and Diclo/para/serratiopeptidase bd for 3 days. The pain has almost gone now and I hardly feel it;though either the antibiotic or the painkillers have played havoc with my stomach or intestines, i feel strange sensation all the time!

He said if the pain goes away do nothing and if it is still there get an X ray done and do root canal for molar and fill off the premolar as there is no problem with it. Is it the correct line of action? If i feel no pain is it OK to do nothing?

I have a strong phobia of root canal, is it painful? After anesthesia injection is given, is it a totally painless procedure?

Speaking as a patient...

There is no reason at all to fear a root canal treatment any more than any drilling and filling. Your dentist has to be highly skilled with local anaesthesia as much as he is with the drill. If he normally does not hurt you, you can trust him/her to do a root canal. For years, I have maintained that the worst part of fillings, root treatment, or even extraction, is the injections: my current dentist is so good I barely even feel that!

If you feel anything, your dentist should back off and increase the anaesthetic.

That's my experience, as a patient with many crowns and quite a lot of root-filled teeth. I hope it encourages you and gives you confidence. I leave all else to be answered by the experts...

For me, the condition which required me to have the root canal was truly painful. The root canal itself was no pain. The full 3-4 days before the root canal, I was in agony. Right after the first sitting of the root canal was the first time I didn't frown in those 3-4 days.

Same here, cowboy

I've been in tremendous pain, it again came back last night after 2 days of lull.

I think it's time to get it done now!

The x-ray should have been the first thing that should have been done. Get a second opinion.

re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

got the x ray done yesterday the first molar showed that one upper tip of the nerve ending effected even though the pulp was OK, the dentist said he could fill it but the problem could reoccur and he advised root canal with crown as a long term solution to the problem. As per him, partial removal of the effected nerve is not done. He asked me to take a decision;filling or RCT.

I didn't know what to do, but then as i had already got it filled around 4 times earlier, I decided to go ahead with RCT (Don't know if it was the right decision!).Even though the first part (removal of nerves) is already done, have I done the right thing by going for the root canal treatment?

Now something about the procedure, all the anxiety was misplaced, it just didn't hurt at all! Not even the injection as he sprayed some anesthetic first. I would have to give 4 sittings and have been prescribed antibiotics and anti inflammatory medicine.

Now dentist is saying that get crown for the adjoining premolar which has some contiguous part filled along with the molar in past to protect it, is it required? Is crown necessary for the root canal tooth too?

Can't advice without seeing x-rays & models of your teeth.

Yes, a crown is essential for teeth that have undergone root canal therapy.

For future info:

The doctor has to make a decision if RCT has to be done or not. It's not your call. You may choose not to do it but you shouldn't be given an option not to do it.

I think he was right in advising RCT as a best long term solution, one more query is that he says for large fillings too crowning should be done to prevent root canal but dentists do not advice it because of cost factor in indian context. Is it correct?

What kind of medicine do doctors generally prescribe in case of loose motion/diarrhoea in infants ( 10 months old ). I've got a doc appointment tomorrow . Is it the usual norfloxacine/metrodinazole suspension ? I was a bit concerned reading of side effects of it on the internet on infants.

Doctor/s,
Since 2-3 weeks, the movement of left leg is restricted. I feel pain in and around the front area of Pelvis and Hip joint on the left leg.Initially the pain was felt when the leg was moved forward/backward, now the pain is felt, when I move the leg out/in.

I am into teaching, stand for 3-4 hours a day for lectures. I am not doing any physical exercise.

Age-30, Backache:-No, not even in past year or so.It's present throughout.
Just for instance, When I lie on bed, and if I try to raise the left leg, it used to pain.(Now it doesn't pain in that movement), I feel pain when I move the leg in or out.
I walk without any pain.
Can shoes be probable cause?
