An incident that I thought I should share.
My wife was not keeping well for a few days. While in Mumbai, she went to your family doctor on two consecutive days with symptoms of nausea, fever, body pain and fatigue.
As usual, there were a couple of pills that he gave and an injection.
She had itching all over the skin and the fever did not go away.
Next day, there was change of pills and another injection.

Third day we came back to Pune and the symptoms still persisted.
We went to Sahyadri which is close by and got a blood test done and took some medicines - Pan 40 and Emerset.
That helped.
The next day, we consulted an 'expensive' doctor in Sahyadri who suspected it is Hepatitis from the eyes (which were yellowish).
He recommended Liver Function Test. We got the test done and and got the report same day. I showed him the report. He looked at it and immediately said "admit karo immediately". Yes, the SGPT and SGOT were high and bilirubin was 4.7.

I consulted my dad on phone and asked him for advise. My wife was infact feeling lot better that day than the past one week. Plus she was not keen on getting admitted for 3 days in the hospital.
So, off I went to the Ayurvedic center and got a huge list of medicines after consulting the 'doctor' there.

Also, the same night, I came to know of the 'doctor' in Lonavala who gives a couple of drops in the nose and cures patients with jaundice.
So, next morning, around 6 AM, we left for Lonavala. We reached around 7:15 AM to Marwadi Galli near the station there. Asked a couple of guys and we were shown a queue of around 10-5 people in a market area.
The procedure there is simple. Once your turn comes you have to lye on the bench, take the few drops in your nose, inhale and then cover your nose with a cloth.
With your head towards the sky, you walk across the other side of the lane and remove all the 'mucus' like substance that comes out of your nose and mouth.
This is a one-time procedure. The whole day, you are supposed to sit upright and let the cough come out. And that is what happened.
After three days, we did another test and the SGPT and SGOT readings were less than 50%. The bilirubin was 4.0.

The ayurvedic medicines are also ongoing and so is diet control.

Just thought of sharing this experience with others here.
My wife is still recovering, but she has a lot more energy than she had last week.

I had cold and cough about 2 weeks back. I went to the doc, who said its a viral infection and gave me some antibiotics. The frequency of the "coughs" increased and did not subside. I was advised to get a Chest x ray, which i did. The report came out with "LRTI" - Lower Respiratory Tract Infection to which the doc said - nothing to worry about. He also prescribed "Sensiclav 625" and "Solvin Cough Syrup".

Just wanted expert opinions on this. Anything to worry about?

Also, I am planning to go to a Medical examination for Australian Visa (which includes a Chest Xray as well). My question is - do i need to worry if this appears on the report?

My wife has developed a cut at the edge of her lips recently. Not sure how it developed. She is finding it difficult to eat food because of this. According to her it is due to excess body heat. Please give some tips on what it might be. Our office work hours are such that we cannot visit the doctor before weekend.

That is "Angular Cheilitis", one of the common manifestations of micro nutrient deficiency. Start B-complex and Ferrous sulfate tablets. Consuming citrus fruits helps to heal quicker. Apply T-Bact ointment over the lesions.

Could be DeQuervain's disease, a common affliction of the thumb.
I think there are orthopedicians on the forum who can give a clearer opinion and tell you about the treatment options, etc.

My wife thinks it is due to excess body heat because she had to take quite a few tablets (pain killers and anti-biotics) when she got her molar tooth removed couple of weeks back.
She drinks less than 1 litre of water per day. I know it's very low.

Thanks a lot for the info and recommending the medicine. This really helped. I looked up "Angular Cheilitis" on Wiki and learnt that it's due to either fungal or bacterial infection. I bought her the Vitamin B-Complex and T-Bact and she'll be using it today.

Please take the medication for the prescribed period of time, ie 7 to 10 days. Chest infections may linger on in some people who are susceptible to allergies and are atopic (family history of allergies and /or asthma) .

There should not be any residual abnormalities on the x ray due to LRTI .

That's not very low, it's Extremely Low !!

While the water requirement can vary a little from person to person, low water intake is often accompanied by constipation, dry skin, feeling weak/ fatigued, even short temper, and over all weakness.

I want to buy a Blood Sugar Monitor for my FIL. I am not able to decide which one to go for.
I have gone through Dr. Morepen BG03 on SD, FK, and Ebay. FK ships it neither to my pincode (Solapur) nor my FIL's (Shirwal, Dist. Satara).
Reviews on SD say that it is very inaccurate. Even the buyer has posted that Dr. Morepen's CC admits variation of 5-30 points.


The budget is @Rs. 800-900/-.
Requirements (not in that order) -
1) Highly Accurate.
2) VFM.
3) Intuitive to use.

Please suggest a good one since I am who is gifting (not particular occasion) it to him.

Also is it advisable to buy one online?

To any orthopedic doctors / physiotherapists out there, I have a query
I had ACL reconstruction on my right knee.
Started playing playing football again after I regained full range of movement [and after taking considerable rest. About 6 - 7 months]
Last Wednesday, I was playing football and i kinda tweaked the knee again, I don't seem to have lost any stability in the knee, but when my right knee is at full stretch and under load [like when I'm running up stairs 2 at a time], the muscles around the knee feel kinda funny, like they were post surgery.

The right rear ligament/tendon connecting the back of the knee to the hamstring ached for 3 days, but now it's almost fine.

The AccuCheck monitor available in most pharmacies is supposed to be good, though costing more than you budget. You could have a look.

The cost of the instrument is negligible compared to cost of the strips. If I remember correctly, the strips cost roughly around 1200-1500 per box of 50 strips - if you are on insulin - you will exhaust one box per month - so the monthly cost would be more than the cost of the instrument itself. So look for the instrument whose strips are easily available and of course accurate. One Touch Ultra and Accu-Check are well known brands. The One touch Ultra costs around 1300 for meter. It's very accurate. And they have excellent customer service also.
