I am not a doctor, but i feel the condition seems like what i had experienced once on my short visit to US. At that time, i ate a refrigerated boiled egg and right after that left side of the face got swollen. The doctor over there, asked for a CT scan but on my request they did a ultra sound. Later, she told me about infection of salivary glands and it will subside on its own. It took around 10 days for the infection to subside and things to be back to normal.

Hello, there appears to be no reason for worry. Since you had a definite history of recurrent sore throat, and since there are no constitutional symptoms like fever, fatigue, night sweats, etc. I assumed it is an inflammatory node, and the fact that it has gotten smaller is reassuring.
By "a few weeks", I meant approximately 4-8. Please refrain from touching the node frequently.
Of course, like I said, do consult an ENT (or your physician), if in doubt, and they will be able to give you a conclusive opinion after examining you.

Forum Doctors,

I am having a constant pain in my right ear for the last couple of days. I am not sure if it is because of an infection or if it is referred pain. The pain is constantly present and at times becomes sharp and throbbing. Please suggest what to do for this. Thanks.

I would suggest you better consult an ENT surgeon . It could be referred pain as you suspect from a dental problem. So its better to first see an ENT surgeon in my opinion.

In between ,I am a medical doctor and my speciality is orthopaedics.I am always happy to help a fellow team BHPian .

Hello Doc's,

My company has scheduled a health check up for me on July 12th. I have successfully avoided health check ups till now. question - how many non drinking days required to normalize sgot/sgpt ratio in LFT? My habits are not a problem for my company but i dont want the elevated ratios to be seen in black and white. I know i can have 'UDliv' for a week to lower this, but dont want to take medication this time around. I am clean for the past two weeks, just want to be sure that a sober month is enough to lower this ratio.

Great thread I came across today. It is unbelievable the scope of help this forum offers to all members!
I had 2 queries

1. For myself - My right palm has been having consistent pain at exactly the base on the knuckle side of the hand whenever i do any push activity using my hand. For eg pushing a door hard. I have shown an orthopedic twice but every time he told me its some minor injury and asked me to where one of those restricting hand bands for a month along with vitamin e capsules. This has helped in disappearing the pain in a week or two until I do the next strenuous activity and the pain reoccurs. Xray has not reported anything wrong. What can be the problem and what should be done to correct this.

2. Wife - Has been detected with Gallstones today. Called up Apollo to check on keyhole surgery and they referred me to a general surgeon. Called Manipal for the same and they referred me to a Gastro<xxx> specialist. Which department or specialist is really required for this surgery? Wanted to go with Apollo but confused now.

TIA

Have you had any issues with SGOT/SGPT before?

Suggest you get it checked from an outside lab if you're really worried!

You need to check with a Gastroenterologist. My mother-in-law got operated in Columbia Asia for Gall stones.

The pain gets dulled to manageable levels when I use the gel, but is there a better and more long term solution to this?
Difficult to say without examination.

Could be a micro fracture of the tooth. Do you have a habit of grinding / clenching your teeth?

Suggest a second opinion of an endodontist.
Don't think it's a gum issue based on what you have reported.

Your wife needs to see a Surgical gasteroenterologist or a General Surgeon for the surgery. Both these specialities would do the keyhole surgery for gall bladder.
Gasteroenterologists are of two types, the medical and surgical. As obvious it is the surgical ones who do the surgery.
Treatment for gallstones will involve removal of the gallbladder, not the stones alone.

Yes, I am diagnosed with gout and the blood routine came with this. Since then I am avoiding alcohol. However this has come up recently and just want to make sure than about 3 weeks is a good enough time period to lower the values for the LFT.

I would recommend you visit a Tertiary care Centre {like a medical college}. And let the Internal Medicine guys come to a diagnosis. They may refer you to different departments in the institution for consultation but it is better than going from one doctor to another who will always start from the baseline investigations.
Yes doc, that is the issue we are facing. Now we are completely fed up with the never ending antibiotics prescribed by doctors. Now, she is having fever from last 25 days which appears in every 7-8 hours (Sometimes it goes on its own else she takes one paracetamol to control it). Doctors have no clue over this and concluding it as a Menopausal symptom. Today we are planning to admit and keep her under observation for 1 week or so. You have any idea about Tertiary care centre in Pune?
Please let me know if you want to check any specific reports. Shall scan and send it over. Thanks for your help sir.

Just a query that I have.what would be an alternative to surgical intervention for the following condition:

-Grade I chondromalacia of the knee joint
-Discoid Meniscus of the knee joint
-Very mild effusion of the knee joint.

Would greatly help as this is for my cousin who is a state badminton player and he really wants to avoid going under the knife at this point but would wish to get back to the game at the earliest if possible,he is otherwise thinking of giving up the game.Physiotherapy is an option?Any reccos for a good sports sensitive doctor in and around Hyd?

Yes, actually I do. I recall an earlier dentist asking me the same because he saw some amount of wear on my teeth
