re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Doctors on the forum,
My 3 year old son received a small cut on his leg while playing. It seems he rubbed against the body of the washing machine which has some rust.
He has had all the required vaccinations done till now.
For the moment we have cleaned the wound and applied Neosporin powder.
Does he need to take tetanus injection now?
Expecting a quick reply.
Thanks.

If his vaccinations are up-to-date then no need for tetanus injection.
Just make sure the wound was thoroughly cleaned. Neosporin powder/ointment are good.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply. Yes the wound was washed with water only ( no dettol used).
Good to hear its not a big issue.
Thanks once again.

I had read about links between triclosan and paralysis earlier.

But there is confirmed news about links between triclosan and cancer.

http://www.businessweek.com/news/201...olgate-s-total

Overall, Triclosan seems to be linked with heart disease, cancer and paralysis. I stopped using pastes with triclosan a couple of years back. A lot of toothpastes have triclosan including Colgate Total. The more expensive the toothpaste the more likely it has triclosan. Other cleaning products & antibacterials also have triclosan.

I am not a doctor.

Ophthalmologist/Optometrist in Bangalore

Couldn't find a thread for this one, hence posting here.

I have diabetes and my eyesight seems to go all around the park. To top it all, I am both near as well as far-sighted and use bifocals since progressives did not work out too well for me. My current prescription reads as follows:

R: Sph: -4.75, Add +1.25
L: Sph: -3.75, Cyl -0.5, Axis 155 degrees, Add +1.25

My diabetes is somewhat under control for the past few months and already I feel that my eyesight has changed.

This time instead of taking a free eye test from eyeglass vendors (or Lenskart.com like I did last time), I am planning to go to a proper ophthalmologist or optometrist as I have not been entirely confident with the free eye tests. Are my apprehensions valid?

Moreover does anyone know any good ophthalmologist or optometrist in Bangalore, preferably in or around Koramangala? Thanks!

Diabetes can cause retinopathy, which adversely affects eyesight. This can happen even when your blood glucose level appears to be under control.

Ideally you should have an eye checkup once in 6 months-12 months.

I would suggest you visit an good ophthalmology center at the earliest.

Regards,
Raghav.

With these last two tests they were trying to rule out Lupus. His symptoms are all over the place (biopsies are not showing any bacterial growth). And it could be Lupus, but an ANA-Negative Lupus, which is very rare.

Ask doctors to run Anti-SM (Smith) antibody test, a kidney function test with biopsy, and anti-U1-RNP antibody test.

It would be better to consult with an Internal Medicine Doctor specializing in Rheumatology and Lupus, and also visit a Pulmonologist.

Wishing your cousin all the best.
My Cousin is doing good now.All the tests taken in previous hospital were showing only negative results.
He got referred to a specialist in Cardio-Thoracic surgery. Based on his advise,we moved him to another hospital where he got operated on his lungs. He got discharged last saturday and doing good.
Doctor has advised him 6 months rest.

Thanks for all your help.

like @Raghav said, it is not about the power. Hence please get your eyes checked regularly.

Are you diabetic? Where is this 'acne' located?

Asking for a colleague. Any recommendation for treating swelling of Gall bladder in Pune? Any home remedies? There are no stones as per the sonography report, only swelling. But it is there for past few months now.

@carboy
I have this Acid reflux problem and Physician advised adding pillows under neck. You are right, it resulted in neck pain(I already have due to continuous reading etc).
As suggested,I will try to get an inclined cot and hope to get relief.
BTW,where can I buy this cot in Mysore?
Thanks

My wife never used this, but I think you should look at medical equipment suppliers. They sell such beds to hospitals.
