Thank you. There are couple of Medical Equipment sellers near the Hospital and I have seen them dealing with Wheelchairs, crutches, walkers etc. May be they would be stocking these type of cots.
I have seen them in hospitals too.Angle of inclination is adjustable

Put a brick under each leg at the head end.

One brick; One brick plus one book; two bricks...

Even this method is adjustable

Also, you get to find out if this works for you without spending any money at all.

Thanks a lot for the tip,Thad Sir..Quite ingenious and practical, costing next to nothing.
Starting straght away with one brick and progressively increase, depending upon results.

re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

Dear Doctors:
My Dental Surgeon says the wisdom tooth(first one, lower right) needs to be removed surgically,as it has grown inclined and pressing against adjacent tooth and this will result in cavity formation.
My query is:
Dental Surgeon wants me to stop Clopitorva for a couple of days before and after surgery to avoid any excessive bleeding.
My query:Is it safe to stop Clopitorva for a short duration? How long it can be stopped?
Can the surgery be conducted without stopping the blood thinner drug?
Thanks

Another way to do this is putting pillows below your bed. Again would be much cheaper than getting a bed that can be propped up. Your can increase the inclination without getting neck pain.

The bricks work too, but would look awful in your bedroom. I've seen this done in our old (obvously) government-run hospital when they ran out of fowler beds.

If your really want a hospital bed, (again would be ungainly in your bedroom), these can be bought in any large "surgicals" shop or even online:

Dear Doctors/Dental Surgeons,
I am anxiously waiting for a response so that a decision can be taken.Awaiting your input regarding the advisability of stopping of Blood thinner medication
during surgery,and any deleterious effects.

Your doctor is absolutely correct.

Though I'm not a doctor but it is always advised to stop Clopidogrel (one of the components in Clopitorva) and medicines like Aspirin a few days before the surgery. Else there may be a increased chance of excessive bleeding.

Yes, I have already mentioned this..But problem is,,Clopitorva is precribed for cardiac patients to aid in improving blood flow thereby avoid clotting etc.
.As such we understand it is most essential and cannot be discontinued as per Physician/Cardiologist. Now,will it not be dangerous if this tablet is advised to be stopped even for a couple of days during the tooth removal surgery, just to avoid excessive bleeding? That is exactly my reason to raise this issue(post #2062)
So,I need to know how the extraction surgery could be performed without excessive bleeding and without stopping Clopidogrel
Honourable medical professionals in here are requested to try to provide a solution.
I am of course not a Doctor

Platelets in blood are the major cells involved in clotting of blood, basically what stops the blood from continuously draining from your finger after you cut it while cutting fruits. They are recirculated/remade/recycled every 8-9 days.

Clopitorva (aka clopidogrel) blocks a receptor on Platelets which prevents them from forming clots, basically making them useless. Thus essential in cardiac patients to prevent any clot formation to prevent/reduce any chances of stroke or MI.

Disadvantage of clopidogrel is that if there is any cut (slice on finger by knife) or any injury, the person can "bleed to death." Bleeding is hard to control if the only thing involved in stopping the bleed are Platelets, and the person will have to be transfused with platelets.

Surgery of any kind that involves a cut or has a tendency to have bleeding will require you to stop taking the medication (clopidogrel). Because no matter how small a nick the doctor will make, it will bleed. If it is an emergency and the person cannot be stopped from taking clopidogrel, the doctors have to be prepared for excessive bleeding and have to have platelets on stanby, and have to do everything in a short span of time. "Better safe than sorry."

Considering the life span of a Platelet (8-9 days), the effect of clopidogrel stays with them till they die. So stopping the the medication for 7-10 days prior to surgery is important. P.S. There is no antidote for clopidogrel, Only platelet infusion. Clopidogrel can be started immediately after surgery if the bleeding has stopped, usually within a day or two post surgery.

This happens with every user of clopidogrel or any other blood thinner/anti-clotting/anti-platelet drug.

You will be fine!!

P.S. if you are still concerned contact the doctor who prescribed you clopidogrel.

Thanks a lot falconion for your opinion which has answered my queries to a large extent. However,as a matter of abundant caution I will consult my Cardiologist regarding temporary stopping of Clopitorva.

Hello Doctors, especially Dentists !!

For the past 2 weeks I have been feeling a muscle pull kind of sensation on the upper right last tooth.

The pain is consistent throughout the day and night, but every 15-20mins I feel a sudden pain which feels like something is pulling the tooth from within the gums.

I went to a local pharmacy and bought some "painkillers for tooth pain". However the problem hasn't gone completely.

Today I bought a pack of Sensodyne toothpaste to see if it helps in the long run.
I had visited a dentist about a year back and he had mentioned that a feww teeth needs cleaning of stains and some micro fillings.
I have had bad experiences during my childhood with dentists and am very scared to go for long term treatments.

Can someone advise me what could be a possible reason for this sudden tooth pain ?
Is Sensodyne good enough, or is it harmful in the longer run.

Thanks in advanve.

My only qualification is having teeth ...and having spent a lot of time at dentists.

1. Pain killers cure nothing, they just suppress symptoms.

2. Dental problems are best treated early. They only get worse, and worse can be the difference between easy and horrible.

I had a horrible childhood experience too. Back then they didn't even give local anaesthesia for fillings. Torture. Now I'm fairly relaxed in the dentist's chair, even for fairly major stuff. You can have a different, new, experience and forget the old.

Get a recommendation and visit the dentist tomorrow!

Exactly what Thad said. Visit a dentist as soon as possible. Home care simply doesnt work for dental problems.

Hello bhpians, I'm looking for recommendations for specialists in Bangalore, preferable south Bangalore, for back pain. This is for my wife who's struggling with back pain since about 2 weeks now.
