We did took him to a paediatrician and he said its due to some sort of allergy and the first step is to find which is causing it. He also confirmed, this is not due to some food. We are still not sure, but believe it should be in the house. Because, when we roam outside, these swells doesnt show up and the moment he comes home, they arrive with it. As a precaution, doc has prescribed some deworming syrup, and a lotion to stop the itch when the swell pops up. For the last 2 days, the swelling hasnt showed up, but fingers crossed

Doctors, please suggest what criteria to use to decide whether to take someone to the doctor if someone has fever/runny nose. Asking in the context of the swine flu threat.

Sister had a bad runny nose for 2 days with some chills and body pain. The chill may also have been because it's been raining here for 2 days and it's been pretty cold. No sore throat or cough. Mild body pain like you get in a fever. There was some headache but gone. Today the runny nose is gone and she is feeling a little better but not fully OK. Should she go to a doc or is it OK to wait.

She has been taking paracetamol/nimesulide and doing some steaming.

Did you change the child's bathing soap?

That can be one of the reasons.

Is there any recommendation for dentist in Pune? I require 2 caps and a bridge of three. What can be expected cost for a good quality ceramic crown?

This is not so much about health ...but health insurance.

It might be out pf place to ask here, but I figure that our professional members have a lot of knowledge and experience of what treatment costs here. Some of them must also have made decisions about health insurance for themselves.

I am 63 years old this July. Never did anything about health insurance, except get slightly more worried about it each year.

Today, I was looking at Star and Max Bupa online. One thing that I noticed was that Star, whilst it may have, say, a sum assured of 5 Lak, has a limit on individual claims for very much less that seems to make a joke of the total sum assured, whereas Max Bupa does not, but their premiums are higher. It sounds worth it to me.

I do not need luxury private rooms in top-name private hospitals: In Chennai terms, I'd probably be more Isobel's than Apollo.

Any general advice?

I am also in the same boat, no insurance.
Though am young I sometimes feel I should.

So far have been dependant on a Lovely Medical College in my city. Last few years have been eventful, thankfully no overnight stay.

We do have a Wokhardt here, and the only time I checked MRI price there was 3.5k compared to 2K at College.

As a kid of a Railway employee I enjoyed free access to big airy railway hospital.

Now I prefer this Medical college for the same.

Any advice.

I would recommend, Dr. Deshpande in Patwardhan Baug. I have done all my dental treatments from here. I could have shared the number over PM but the facility is not activated for me as of yet. Let me know if you need the number.

Thad, at your age, it will be very difficult to buy health insurance. Many providers will refuse to sell it to you or at best it will be very expensive.

Very expensive? Well, yes. The products I have taken a look at are from 18,000 to over 30,000 per year. But probably not nearly as expensive as a heart attack!

My in-laws (in their late sixties) had Star for about 4 years but discontinued it after they filed their first claim. They were made to run around a lot and at the end received much less than they were entitled to. Now they are without insurance.

Hope Max Bupa is better.
