This is not true. I know this because this is my job as a regulator.

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

In a Abdomen and Pelvic ultrasound for my kidney stone, the radiologist has listed Fatty Liver as one of the observations.
I don't drink and I was a little surprised with the findings.

My questions to the specialists in the forum is
- Should I be concerned with this observation ?
- What test should I be getting any further tests done ?

Then why does the ibuprofen 200mg that's available at the chemists don't work the same?

I bought them once because I read on the net that ibuprofen does work wonders for certain people with migraine. My wife took it, nothing for a few hours and ultimately she had to go to sleep. If I remember correctly it was Cipla's. The brand my sister was carrying was Motrin.

Even i concur with you on the adulterated drug. I take Crocin for my occasional headache and have found the efficacy to me strictly average .The time taken for it to kick in is also > 1 hour. Last time, i took a Calpol and surprise surprise , headache gone in half hour.

Similar observation for Dolo-650. The drug's efficacy duration is not longer than Crocin. But the effect kicks in early like calpol.

You can do one experiment.
Get 200mg Ibuprofen tablets from all the available brands at the chemist(hope there are not too many) and ask your wife to take one of them each time she has a migraine and see which one has the most impact. Easiest way to narrow down to the best one!

Well the brands are way too many to count on fingers but my sister asked me to keep one box of Motrin which has about 200 tablets. A lot of her office folks keep coming back to India so she'll send another one when I need it.

Our family doctor is quite a reputed one (not those commercial doctors) which is why I was very surprised. Him telling me that if its Motrin/Advil/Aleve I should stop taking anything else is what really made me ask the original question.

This is rubbish, IMHO. US doctors themselves prescribe generic Ibuprofen & many of those are exported from India. There is the branded Motrin & generic Ibuprofen - there is branded Tylenol & generic Paracetamol - as per FDA, there should be no difference between them. I have taken both American generic Ibuprofen & Indian Brufen. My sister has even once taken 8 tablets of generic 200 Ibuprofens per day in the US for a couple of days before she was shifted to oxycodone (opium like pain killer).

Low end pain killers (NSAID) are the same in India and US. The difference is in the opoid pain killers which are available in the US and illegal in India and that's sad for patients suffering from a lot of pain.

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

I have never noticed any difference between the "generic" ibuprofen off the shop shelves in India and that in London, and a 400mg is the same as two 200mg. And, since the generic product became available, I have never, and never would, buy the fancy-box branded versions at considerable premium.

This is not to say that there is never a chance of buying week, duff, or even completely fake stock of this, or any other drug. I guess that happens. I have no evidence that it has ever happened to me.

Actually 200mg Ibuprofen is not adult dose. Adult dose is 400 to 800mg 3 times daily.
Try Brufen next time and buy it from a renowned shop. Spurious medicines are a problem in India but it is NOT as big as projected by media or perceived by people.
There is a nation wide survey ongoing in truly scientific manner and the results will soon be public. More than 50000 samples has been drawn from varoius corners of the country and is being tested. Drawing and testing of the samples are done by a blinded procedure. The study is designed by Indian Statistical Institute. As far as I know the percentage of spurious drugs is the country is well below 10%. The number is even lower in metro cities.

Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations-wp_ss_20160319_0002.png
Hey doc(s), I eat 10-12 whole eggs everyday along with some decent amount of saturated fat from dairy and low carbs( not ketosis low but under 90G). I've been following this diet for almost two months and have lost a decent amount of fat.
Problem is, I just realized that I'm going way overboard with cholesterol.
So I decided to get a lipid test done and quit whole eggs if the cholesterol isn't normal but that didn't happen. I'm quite shocked, two months of 10 egg yolks everyday and yet my cholesterol is normal? Have attached my report.

Recent research has shown that dietary cholesterol doesn't directly lead to higher serum cholesterol or higher risk of heart disease.

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

I don't think my hearing was ever perfect, even before I abused it with loud noise in my youth, but it has been noticeably subnormal for well over a decade, and has now reached a point where I need to invest in hearing aids. I've visited this topic before; I did try an aid for a while quite a few years ago in UK. but now it has become more important.

Of course, music, of different kinds, is an important part of my life, but live carnatic music is at the top of the list.

I want to know if I can get a satisfactory listening experience with aids, at a price I can afford, which, post-flood, is not a high amount. On the other hand, I am anxious to avoid false economy resulting in feeling that I have wasted 50K or so when another 10 or 20, or even 50, might have bought noticeably better fidelity or useful functions. Having been something of an audiophile, I do not mind spending money on good sound. Or interesting gadgets!

I have all kinds of questions that I would like to discuss, perferably with a regular-concert-going rasika. Stuff like how digital aids, if they do noise-cancelling, handle the tambura drone; what happens when the sound engineer is hell-bent on deafening even the youngsters with perfect hearing; will the person slapping talam nearby become painful instead of just annoying... etc, etc, etc.

Yes, I have an ENT surgeon, but he is referring me to his audiologist to discuss the aids. She was just leaving when we spoke to her yesterday and requested that we return next week. We will do so, but, although I may be guilty of community stereotyping here, her name suggests to me that she is not going to be intimately familiar with carnatic music. And her age suggests that she probably hasn't even heard of the Grateful Dead! :

Do we have any Chennai-based audiologists among our members? Please drop me a mail if you can help, on either a personal or professional basis. Or post here with any general advice or experience.

Of course, I'd like to hear from users of these things, as well as the professionals, although possible the age-group of our t-bhp forum may not extend as far as that of the music forum where I have also posted, where I am far from being one of the older members.

By the way: My hearing is now tailing off from about 3K; both ears are affected ...and I don't have vanity issues demanding invisible aids, I am quite happy with the BTE type.

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

I don't know whether it is the right place to ask this type of question. But here is the question if it makes sense-

When I was around 2.5 years old, I had got severe fever. My parents took me to a doctor. But the doctor was not available at the clinic due to Curfew in 1984 (When Late Indira Gandhi was assassinated). The nurse gave me a injection/medicine (Don't remember) that contain Sulphate/Sulphur which affected my right eye.

When I checked my eye sight at the age of 16 years (1998), the Prescription Glasses No. were (-0.50) for Left Eye and (-2.50) for Right Eye.

When I rechecked the Eye Sight 3-4 years ago (2012-13), it was similar to above (-0.50) and (-2.50).

I want to quit the Glasses but do not want to undergo Laser Treatment (don't want to use Lenses either). What type Eye Exercises or Home Remedies can I follow to make my Eyesight Perfectly Normal?

Thanks in advance.

MODS: - Please delete this post if such question does not deserve to be here.

Does fatty liver lead to cirrhosis? Is NOT fatty liver reversible with exercise and diet?
