Thanks for the info. My dentist at that time some 3 years ago found that my teeth (canine and premolars) on both sides of my lower jaw had lesions just above the gum line probably due to heavy brushing. Until then I didn't even know I had those lesions. Pardon my ignorance of proper medical lingo, but he made cavities and filled them with ordinary cement. The cement came off and subsequently it has been filled thrice, twice with composite and UV light, and last time with ordinary cement once again.

I am frustrated with the fillings falling off and that is why I took up the offer from the last dentist who gave me a 1-year warranty on fillings with free re-filling if required. Never mind that her work wouldn't fool anybody as the filling looks pearl white and feels like a clump attached to my teeth, but by now those fillings have fallen off too and in desperation I have bought this sonic toothbrush.

What I would appreciate is if you can tell me what I, or rather my dentists, are missing out on. What do I do to keep these fillings fastened? In desperation, I have also thought of putting veneers or crowns, hence your reply is much appreciated.

If the defects on your teeth was due to brushing and not caries, I believe your old dentist did the wrong thing by drilling it. Now that it is constantly failing it is not the problem of the filling material or the dentist, but the location of the cervical abrasion.
Last try will be with a good dentist using proper technique, new material and good amount of curing with UV gun.
If it is not working, true option left for you is a veneer or crown

Although I don't quite agree with your logic of taking pain killers and continuing with your 'squatting heavy weights'. Rest alone should be adequate. If you still feel discomfort, you should reduce the weights or frequency of your work outs. If your pain persists, you might wanna meet your doctor once.
I'm not squatting any weight at all now. The last time I did so the back pain worsened. I met our family doctor yesterday and after a quick checkup of me lying down and raising my legs he said that there's no need to take any medicine at all and I should be better in another 2-3 weeks.

Now I'm only doing bodyweight squats, chinups, pushups etc. However, the back pain becomes too irritating at times and Naprosyn didn't really help much. Any other painkiller that I can get OTC which can help supress the pain?

So for the late reply, was out of town on work.

A successful restorative procedure using composite cements for carious and noncarious cervical lesions depends upon a number of preoperative considerations: diagnosis, occlusal evaluation (in the case of abfractions), the type of restorative material (bulk flow composite, flowable composite, macrofilled, nanohybrid etc. etc.), cavity design, isolation, and gingival health.

Prior to placement of any cervical restoration, a consideration of all the factors related to loss of tooth structure or displacement of the cervical restoration should be reviewed.

Composite resins depend upon the use of cavity preparation designs that are conservative, and require meticulous adherence to proper adhesive techniques.

Coming to your issues, are you sure this is just limited to one or few teeth in the same arch/quadrant ?? Are any of your teeth suffering from tooth wear ?? If so, you would need an occlusal evaluation and propably an occlusal splint.

If not the fillings would have to be redone more meticulously following all the guidelines needed for a successful composite restoration.

Concern Regarding Crowns & Veneers
Crowns would NOT be advisable for these conditions. Crowning teeth would require significant reduction of tooth structure to accomodate a crown (more so if you are planning for a full-ceramic crown). Crowning vital teeth is usually undertaken when there is fracture, gross caries, significant erosion of teeth or a developmental defect that does not allow conventional methods of restoration. You would be cutting down healthy tooth structure which is irreversible.

If the fillings are done meticulously, I see no reason for the restorations to fail. Incase they do even after following the guidellines, Veneers can be considered. Make sure you have a good aesthetic dentist to do your veneers as they are extremely technique sensitive.

Feel free to ask me any more queries you may have.

Regards.

Dear Doctor,
My wife has a dental issue off late. One of her bottom Wisdom tooth was extracted 2-3 years back. However, since the corresponding upper wisdom tooth was kept as it is, it is now drooping down. This is causing some slight gap between the wisdom and the neighboring tooth. When food particles enter into this gap, slight pain arises and then subdues later.
What would be the solution to this problem?

Hi Abhishek,
This drooping down of corresponding teeth is called "SupraEruption". Supra-erupted posterior teeth is one of the most common clinical findings in dental practice. Delayed/NO replacement of lost teeth often leads to extrusion of the opposing teeth into the edentulous space.

Since the upper molar is currently causing discomfort and is being symptomatic, also considering that it is

1) a third molar (which does not aid in mastication)
2) has no opposing tooth (which would mean that it would droop down more)

I would consider getting the tooth removed (extracted). Since it has drooped down significantly, I think it should be a fairly simple extraction procedure.

Thanks & regards,
Dr. Aniketh Sharma

Re: Calling doctors/dentists/specialists on Team-BHP to provide free consultations

This might get nominated for "Most Stupid Question" on this thread but I have to ask. Maybe this will save me from embarassment at the shop.

Almost an year ago, my father had used a toothpaste for his teeth problems (on a random shopkeeper's suggestion) and it worked wonders. The problem was mainly sensitivity and gum pain. In a month or so, my father was relieved and switched back to the usual Colgate since then.

Now the sensitivity problem has started again (since 2-3 weeks) and my father wants to use that toothpaste again. The problem here is that I do not remember the name of the toothpaste now. The shop owner who had suggested it has shifted to some other place, and contacting him now is out of question.

I thought of giving Team BHP (and its dentists) a try before proceeding to the shop. Below is what all I remember (and what all I will explain at the shop tommorow) about the toothpaste -

* I took that toothpaste as Sensodyne was not available. So they might be related.
* It was a foreign brand for sure. No herbal/ayurveda thingy.
* It was expensive at Rs. ~80 for a small pack.
* It came in a royal blue color pack (and tube), similar to ViJohn shaving cream packs.
* It had an 8 letter name IIRC and had one or two 'O's in the name. My closest guess is 'Osmodine' but nothing exists with that name.
* The person who suggested it claimed that it is very well known and recommended brand for multiple teeth problems.

Please let me know if anyone knows about such a brand. Thanks in advance.

My bet is that the dentist will say that the toothpaste is just masking the problem, which needs diagnosis and proper treatment.

Painful teeth and gums? Seriously: don't mess with mouthwashes and toothpastes, see a dentist.

The densist is not recommending any treatment for now. He says changing toothpaste to Sensodyne or other sensitivity related ones will give relief and only if the problem persists, he will look at treatment or other options. Maybe I need to fix another appointment with the dentist.

Doctors, what is your take on Chiropractors?

I saw this video

and it was incredible to see something as simple and non-invasive to get rid of back/hip pain.

I'm suffering from pain which started in the lower back (due to heavy squatting as well as bad form when I was putting the loaded barbell back on the squat rack) and has now shifted to glutes.

I chanced upon the video above and wanted to try a Chiropractor as it seemed the easiest way out.

http://back2health.in/ These guys are highly rated and seem to be one of the best Chiropractors in Delhi.

I thought why not get an opinion from this forum before I pay these guys a visit.

If yes, DON'T ever let anybody other than a doctor to manipulate your spine. This can have fatal consequences.

You mean a Doctor who's also a chiropractor?

Mind having a look at this guy - http://back2health.in/about-2/team/

Also, assuming you are a doctor too, what's your opinion about the guy in the video. To me, it seemed he knew exactly what he was doing. He only seems to adjust people's neck (or maybe that's equivalent to adjusting spine).
