Well.. i have to wait till mid of this month to know - how good is 2009 going to be...

Good thing is - as of now, my company has announced that there will not be any headcount reduction - will remain flat.

I work for a large indian IT company. There is no head count reduction as of now.

However, there is lot of cost cutting being done - No Air Travel across India, No Stationary at office, no facility to make local calls from office and others.

This is OK to carry on as long as there are no pink slips and pay cuts.

Confirmed from friend about what? I just spoke to someone and in Mumbai, former i-Flex banking division people are not affected at all. Yes, there is free-bie cut as it is with all the other companies but no salary cuts or hourly pay.

actually it happens everywhere, just that companies were lenient to allow 8+ hours of time loging regardless of actual work done.

they don't even need to issue a notice to implement it tightly as suggested in the article.

^^^^

It seems its not about hours actually. Anyone who is on bench is being asked to be "billable" or to get out.

NetFreak's news can be termed as reliable. I have heard the same from some sources. Let's close the oracle topic here.

This is ridiculous, how can a employee make himself billable?
It is the responsibity of the Company who recruited him to deploy him on suitable projects.
And if the Company can't find a project for their employees, they should take the blame, instead of making the employees scapegoat!

What me worry? Well, my IT company can't fire me at least, because I have resigned last month . I am immigrating to OZ and yet to start looking for a job there. I am not the look before you leap type, but I am fairly confident that I can get by these difficult times. One good thing is that I am completely debt free as I have sold my apartment few months back.

I would say that we do need times like these to clean up the system off all the freeloaders and under skilled people. Anybody with a reasonable knowledge of economics would have seen this coming.

Now, those who can spend should spend. Otherwise, how will the economy get better?

Very true. Early in my career people said that being hardworkers was their strength, then came a period when people said smart working mattered more and this current phase will probably add inner toughness to the top of the list.

And how tough can things get? If India Inc. wasn't already feeling the heat, what happened to Satyam today has just made things worse. I've been listening to analysts speak about the issue all night and feeling sicker than before. Wonder what would happen to all those employees (and of course investors).
