A Birthday Thread - what a pleasant surprise...
Thanks a lot for all your wonderful wishes - you have made this day very special to me. It is indeed a very different experience to be so far away from my family and friends on this day so it feels very nice to get all those great wishes from all of you. Thanks a lot again!!!

And all the nice names lol - Princess, First Lady... I feel very honoured!

The ones who posted in German: Excellent, just perfect smile! Now, I would also like to understand all the wishes posted in Hindi - not sure if the English sentences coming with the posts always give the translation or not. Please help me out with the following:

I really cracked up on the line "Phalo Phulo, khair chodo" in Dostana, but in this case I guess its in order to say "Phalo Phulo all the way!"

Best wishes
Thanks for helping me!!!

A literal translation would be "prosper" (Phalo) and "swell" (Phulo) the latter referring to a bride conceiving. These days its only the older generation that use this and as with many other customs and traditions you won't encounter this often.

Recently the Bollywood movie Dostana which was a takeoff on gays had the mother bless her son's prospective bride (well in this case a guy) with the phrase "Phalo Phulo" only to retract immediately with "Khair Chodo" meaning "well forget it" implying the blessing would not apply to a gay couple.

Hope this clarifies. The original phrase has been a classic blessing from elders.
