Green-energy investments, please share your perspective

Hey guys,

I live in the US and you guys know that the dumb US public is suddenly waking up to the fact that we use way too much energy for our own good

So green energy is the new "fad" and several companies are now popping up with many different products.

Between gasoline problems, war in the middle east, pollution problems, upcoming CAFE standards and a host of other issues - green energy is FINALLY looking like a viable alternative.

With president Obama in office - I think green energy stocks will skyrocket in the next few years and I'm considering investing heavily in them.

My tactic has been to invest a decent amount before a (known) company's big product release - ride the "omg this product is freakin awesome" wave - and then pull out. Obviously I've had only a few chances to employ this but I've been fairly successful.

This long term investment thing is new to me, so I thought I could get your thoughts on this. Please post your opinion and your background if it'll help.

Lastly - I do understand the basics of investing and I wont be throwing bread-money into stocks. If I invest, I'll go in with the attitude that I'm throwing the money into a pit of fire.
