Depends on your accounts dept. If they want proof, you have to give it. This is to prevent guys claiming LTA without going anywhere! (Pigging out in New Hampshire / Anjappars does not cout as going out of town!)

You also have to maintain the bills etc. till your tax audit is over and the time for re-assessment is also over. This is because you are claiming in your tax return that this LTA amount is not taxable as it is a reimbursement. If the tax dept. wants to see your bills and you dont have them, you could be made to cough up the tax on the LTA alongwith interest and penalty. When you add all of them up, they could be more than the amount of the LTA!!

Cheers,

sorry if i am waking up an old thread.

Can I claim LTA if i travel by my own car. My office is not accepting even if I submit proof of travel (fuel bill, toll receipts, hotel bills etc). If I can claim, is there an income tax link which says so ?

Dunno about any site buddy buttt, I had queried our payroll vendor about the same and this is how it went.

My Mail.
Hi,
I am planning to travel to my native by my personal car.
I would be doing a round trip.
Can I claim LTA against the Fuel receipts and Highway toll booth receipts?
What all proofs do I need to submit during reimbursement of the same?

Kindly advise.
Warm Regards,
Pervez.

And the reply:

Hi Pervez,
Please be informed that to claim your LTA you have to submit LTA claim Forms along with the Petrol bills (Fuel Receipts )before10th of the month .

Highway toll booth receipts will not be considered for LTA claims .
Please ensure that all queries are sent to
Regards,

I travelled by air, and submitted the bills on this month's 10th.
Caution: While travelling by air, the Meru cabs bills till the airport or back
and the UDF will not be considered. So the INR 664 Meru + INR 260 UDF had to be borne by me. Dayyuum!!

Re: Now, you don't need proof to claim LTA

Revisiting an old topic :

What is the minimum number of PAID Leaves to be taken to claim LTA ?

Some say its 5 Days and others say its 3 days.

Can anyone please confirm the actual data ?

Appreciate your help

I have taken LTA with 4 days off on one instance. 3 days off minimum was the rule both in mine and missus workplace.
