Could Google fix Detroit?

I thought this is an interesting question for TBHPians to brood over.

Check out latest BW which has the same cover. The link also has extracts from the book "What would Google do".

I personally think Apple's Steve Jobs and his team would do a much better job with designing and selling cars which people actually "want"

reminds me of the classical joke between GM and Microsoft heads. what would a car behave like if it was developed in the same way as windows.

And what do you think a car would do if it was developed like an iPhone or a Mac?

there are million possibilities of what it would do. But I do agree it will look and feel good if designed like mac.

don't we have a dreaded white screen on ipods now? we make fun of microsoft all the time, but that doesn't make apple (or google) super safe to be used on road. does anybody remember google's "human error" last week.

No doubt, what Google has achieved is phenomenal. I had, in fact, created a thread on its importance sometime back. However, I can't digest talk of Google being the solution to all problems. They have their core competencies and that's it. It's not like google hasn't had failures. And yes, you simply can't release a "beta" version of a car!

Why not Tata does it all the time.

PS: This is just a joke and would request people to take it as one. I am not bashing Tata here.

Obviously, Google here just represents new-age organizations.

Anyway, tough times calls for tough measures. At a time when all auto majors are staring at losses, some out-of-the box thinking won't be out of place

For example, would you pay extra to get your car painted on custom shade? From the auto-maker's perspective, is it that tought to achieve? Base coats are going to be the same anyway. Mixing is not a problem- a local paint-shop guy is able to make custom color in 5 min. Alternatively, could this be outsourced? (I know you are thinking about assembly lines, etc)

With so many expressways coming up, why can't cars have ticket-holders?

Why not make a TBHP car
