MIT Team Creates Shock That Recharges Your Car Quote:
If you had a GenShock, you may not mind those potholes in the road any longer because this new prototype shock actually harvests energy from bumps in the road to save on fuel. A team of students at MIT have invented a shock absorber that harnesses energy from small bumps in the road, generating electricity while it smooths the ride more effectively than conventional shocks.

Wow! That's a path-breaking invention. Hats off to the ingenuity of these guys. Not too long before EVs (electric vehicles) rule! And a car which'll give better FE off-road than on the NE-1...
There was a chap who devised a small generator embedded in the heel of his shoe which generated enough current to recharge his cell phone while he walks around with the cell in his pocket.
How ingeniuos is that?? Forget MIT he is a clerk in a government office.
This was shown on Indian Inventors something on one of the News Channel.
Usually these fancy inventions don't last the test of practicality.
Very useful for Bangalore roads filled with pot holes or huge bumpers :). Yes these invention are not seen in products.
What a fantastic gadget for Indian roads, now you will want to drive only on bumpy roads.
Will be nice to see that for commercial use!!Till then great invention on papers!!

It harnesses a part of wasted energy. It can't give you better FE off-road compared to smooth ones.
I could use one of those! Surprising, but the street where my office is reminds me so much of the roads in B'lore/most other cities. Potholes, and crappy concrete roads at that!( in the 5 months of working here,my car has had 1 strut replaced, 3 punctures and 1 mounting bracket replaced).
