Re: Sunglasses you own and wear thread

Hello everyone,

Wonder if anyone can help me with this. I am looking at purchasing Mau Jim's "Mavericks" model. Can anyone guide me to any good store/s in Bangalore which keeps Mau Jims.

regards,

Wagoner

Do your prescription lenses have the company logo in the corner?

When I got the prescription glasses done; I was given three options of the glass:

a) Ray-ban glass
b) Crizal
c) Local (non-branded) but good quality

So, it depends what you chose. If the glass is non-prescription, you'll have the Ray-ban logo.

Man, I would love to have prescription glass plus that logo in the corner. However it's only available on the US site and costs a bomb.

Ray, how much it costed to get the prescription lenses added on the sunglass frame? Is it done inhouse by the optician or sent to Ray-ban? Is it Polaroid? I am interested to do this but every year i go for eye check my power changes slightly (by say 0.25 dioptres)
Thanks in advance

I recently got Oakley Prizm Sunglasses as a gift from Macy's. They are also Polaroid.

They are Holbrook variant.
Link: Oakley that I have

One word, they are amazing. They give amazing clarity. I have 6/5 vision and they actually help me a lot during the daily ride to office.

I have been using prescription sunglasses since years now and they work like a charm - one of the biggest advantage is you have the liberty to choose the frame based on what you like and then also get to choose what prescription lenses you want - color, brand of lenses, dual shade or single shade color. Polaroid/non-Polaroid - the possibilities are endless but they have an associated cost so choose wisely.

As far as I know there are 2 brands of lenses which are mostly used - Essilor and GKB, Essilor is costly and are known to match the lenses color to the T as per your specification/choice. These are also build up on the machines and machine cut to precision to fit perfectly in the chosen frame. The cost gets calculated based on your prescription power, I recently got one made for 2300/- INR for myself excluding the cost of the frame.
Hope this helps !

Re: Sunglasses you own and wear thread

Are there sizes for sunglasses as well? I was trying to see something online as someone stole my sunglasses from the glovebox of my 4WD Scorpio .

Few I am seeing are of universal size. My head measures 58cms I believe [helmet size M]. Any good website for sunglasses or is it better to go to a store [Shoppers Stop is the best I can go to] and check out?

Yes.

Important measurements are lens size (width of each lens between its widest ends), bridge size (width of the bit that sits on your nose bridge and connects the two lenses) and temple length (stem length from hinge to back).

If you prefer a good fit, best to at least try the pair in person even if you buy online. I recently had to give up two designs I liked because one or the other measurement was out of my comfort range.

Re: Sunglasses you own and wear thread

Any way to measure the head and then order online? Like the way we do for helmets? Any help in this regard would be appreciated.

Re: Sunglasses you own and wear thread

Here's a good layman guide. You'll only need a plastic ruler for approx measurements.

Only the U.S Ray Ban site does prescription lenses with logo.

https://www.ray-ban.com/usa/prescrip..._G-15_Polar_SV

I don't think prescription lenses + rayban logo is available anywhere in India.

Re: Sunglasses you own and wear thread

How is the brand Carrera as far as glasses go? Looking to get one on discount as a budget buy and do not wish to spend over 3K. This will be in the glovebox of my SUV as I hate leaving out the Oakley's there.
