Car logo design: Likes and dislikes

Hi all,

Would love to hear your various opinions on car manufacturer/brand logos. My opinion is influenced not just by the design but also by the placement. Here are a few of my likes and dislikes:

Likes:
Mercedes Benz - Simple, understated, dignified especially when mounted on the hood
BMW: Composition and colour
Hyundai: Dynamic, curvy

Middle of the road:
Volkswagen: Used to like the way V and W are arranged, but its mounted too big on their cars; too loud.

Dislikes:
Maybach: for a premium car, the badge is downmarket and immature, IMO.
Audi: I don't see any sense in those four circles, and its mounted too big like the VW.
Renault: just don't like it.
Hindustan Motors: absolutely childish.

Cheers.

Rehaan,

Wow, you came up with so many links! It will take some time to go through all, The topic about meaning of car logos is especially interesting.

Last night I did an advanced search of thread titles and it did not return so many related topics. Upon close observation of your links, it struck me that the forum software's search function does not recognise 'logo' and 'logos' as simillar or whatever.

Cheers,
Guite

Jag's new logo - the Jag is missing it's meanness there. Looks happier, more playful now. The lighter shade adds to it, and the font drops a lot it's classic-ness too.

Absolutely. At this rate 30-40 years down the line, it might look like a "Hutch" dog. Or may be like a domestic cat.

Best looking Car Logos in India. What's your taste ?

I have always been a big fan of attractive and quality logos. So much that, I may not even consider a car with a bland logo (yes, I can be that peculiar). Everytime I see an excellent product from Maruti, Hyundai or a Toyota, I wish they develop more vibrant logo.

I like to see colorful logos rather than just plain chrome lettered ones. IMO, a tastefully designed logo has the potential to considerably enhance car's look. Apart from being striking, quality of material used and how it holds up in long term also matters.

Some energetic Logos I love (Pics taken from respective official websites)
