Blood Group: O+ve
No of Blood donations: 8

I think we need to cultivate this habit of donating blood every year.
Blood donation doesnt have any side effects at all.

A couple of suggestions..

1) We should have a common database of Team-Bhpians with their address, date of last donation and contact numbers so that anybody who needs blood can contact them in case of an emergency requirement.

2) Why not organise voluntary Blood Donation of the interested Team Bhp members say in delhi, mumbai, chennai or calcutt or Bangalore or...etc

I think the moderators should do something about this.

That's a good suggestion infact. Hey Chennai'ts may be we should do this on our next meet (Lets talk and decide the day).

I'm a regular blood donor. I guess people in chennai must be knowing the Jeevan Blood Bank in Nungambakkam. They are doing a great job. That's an information for people who are in need of blood also.

Will try to get there phone number and will post it ASAP.

Blood Groups / Database

I am B+ve and donate regularly. They say one can do it every 3 months.

It would be a nice idea to have a database of ppl with tel. nos. Location is not that crucial since the Airways people will carry it to another city if you can inform them the emergency. We have done this from Ahmedabad....... Cochin wanted A- blood badly and we found a donar friend who can do this. Mind you, in emergencies the blood bank have to give it from their stock and then you will have to replace it. You never know when you need blood. Specially, ppl with rare groups would be life savers if data is availabe. Groups like A-, AB- are rare.......

B+ here.

Don't know if this is useful information, nonetheless:

O- = Universal Donors

AB+ = Universal Recipients

The universal donor/recipient thingie is for the text books in schools only as the blood transfusion is done only the matching blood group.

Maybe in a critical situation the universal donor(0+ve) and the Universal receptor(ab+) may have some roles.

O+ is a very common type across the world.

But in India, B+ve is the most common group.

I was wondering what the blooming point of this thread is: but i see that we're promoting blood donations... thats a wonderful thing to do.
One word of caution: Do NOT donate blood in small clinics etc - dont need to tell you why.
And dont always wait till a family member or friend needs blood... we all do that dont we?

Oh, didn't know that B+ was the most common in India. Thanks for the info. As for the blood donation, i once tried to but wasn't allowed to because i wasn't 18 at the time. Is there really an age restrcition for blood donation?

PS: your signature is very funny Sam!
