Planning going to NewZealand for 6 months, advice/help required.

Guys and Gals,

I've been asked by my company for an "onsite" trip to newzealand.
I'm in the process of thinking it over so I can accept/reject it.

City : Auckland

Any of our team-bhp guys there ?

I'm planning to go with my wife, so I'm trying to find out what kind of expense I should expect.

Please help me figure out what will be approximate cost of living over there ?
Rent, food, transportation etc.
How much will be tax etc. (Heard it different if you go alone and with family)
Any good sites I can go through to get an Idea ?

Basically I need to know how much I'll need in Newzealand $ to survive.

What is the offer that the company is giving? You might get some useful information here:

Thanks for the reply amtak.
I do not have any details, that is why I started this thread to get an idea about the approximate figures.

It like once I have an idea how much it will be then I can negotiate (hope I can) better. I'm not ever sure what my role will be.

There is an NZ based indian in the offroading section.
Ask him to put down his thoughts on here.

basic costs 1000 dollars per head per month but this varies on individual needs and lifestyles. I know some who survive on 600 per month too... Also if you willing to share accommodation or no... And check payment terms as you can get away without paying taxes if you are employee on site transfer for a short duration else you can claim back most of it too...

Thanks Nitrous, will check that out.

Thanks iceman91, Tax will be deducted so whatever I'll get will be after tax.
An I mentioned if I'm planning to go alone I'll not worry. Need to take wife with me. The company terms are not clear yet so still pondering. Can you ping the guy you know there of PM his mail id if its ok, I'll just try to get some more details.

Thanks guys for the help.

I can't help you on the NZ part.

But, I think onsite is the best place to be in times of recession. What say? Even if the offer is a little less, I say go for it. After 6 months, times should be a little better, I hope.

Food is cheap in NZ. Rent payed is weekly in NZ. Say $200 per week. Transport is cheap. 1.5$ for day when I was there in 2006. In Downtown bus rides are free. Lots of indian stores there.
