re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Recently watched this movie from down under!

Wolf Creek
Terrifying to say the least. Exceptional performance by John Jarratt in negative role. I will think twice before venturing on a long drive again!
Highly recommended!

@C300: That is not only a brilliant movie, it is also based on a true story!
When I was in Melbourne, I had this dream of going on a road trip to the outbacks. Needless to say, after seeing the movie, that road trip never happened .

IMO, its somewhat based on "No Strings Attached" starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman.
The story line is pretty much the same. Mila Kunis looks great in the movie.

As far as the story is concerned, really got me thinking- is this the way ahead for all those who claim that they do not have time for a relation? Nice option, if you ask me .

Ben X
(Saw it on Lumiere with English subtitles, originally a Dutch Movie)
Brilliant movie about a teenage boy suffering from Autism. He is incapable of emotions and is egrossed in an online multi-player game. It dwells on how teenagers around him make his life miserable, almost driving him to kill himself. A very sad story-line but told very well by the director. Definitely worth a watch.

For all hardcore comic guys, aware of the multiverse concept prevelant in all(dc, marvel), this would make sense.
for others, avoid, cos itll be hard to digest "ultraman".

2 hours of pure fun!!
5/5, definitely!!
Yep I Saw it on Netflix & thoroughly enjoyed it

The Lion King 1 1/2

Had seen it long back wanted it again as Wifey hadn't seen it. A good watch for anyone who loved Timon & Pumba, It shows their background & also a few insights into the Original Lion King from their POV

3/5

Body of Lies

The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)-bol.jpeg

The movie is based on CIA operations in Middle East. The story is about a plot to capture the head of Terrorist organization with the Help of Jordanian Intelligence. While the narration & overall direction is good, time & again Leonardo Di Caprio's impresses with his acting skills. This guys is phenomenal. A must watch for his fans.

3.5/5

Pitch Black

The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)-pb.jpeg

This is one of those lost in space Landed on unknown planet kind of movies yet the direction is crisp & Vin Diesel is worth watching. A decent watch if you have time to kill

2.5/5

Philadelphia

The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)-p.jpg

The movie is about a wrongful termination case filed by Andrew Beckett (Tom Hanks) against his employers who fire him as they discover that he is Gay & has AIDS. The Cast is Impressive with Tom, Denzel Washington & Antonio Banderas. While the Direction is Average & the court room drama could have been better, the sheer performances by Denzel & Tom makes the movie worth watching.

Seems like Hindi Movie Phir Mileng was inspired by this movie but just say Revathi handled it pretty well & didnt create a mere copy.

3.5/5

Saw "Changing Lanes" starring Ben Affleck and Samuel Jackson. Hindi movie "Taxi No 9211" was a remake of this movie. Changing Lanes is a far better movie than the Hindi remake. I liked Samuel more than Ben in this movie.

4 out of 5.

Yes. The sad part is that the crime scene is still untraceable.

Apparently, a number of people go missing in outback each year, usually tourist and backpackers. Many people survive and return back but no one knows what happens to others

Training Day (2001) - IMDb

A cop drama. I watched this movie without reading up about it or watching trailers etc, and found it to be simply brilliant. Denzel Washington is brilliant in his role as a (what I thought was) maverick cop and he completely overshadows his equally brilliant co-star, Ethan Hawke. A must watch.

Rating : 4/5.

Donnie Brasco (1997) - IMDb

A true story about FBI agent Joe Pistone infiltrating the mob, starring Al Pacino as mob soldier and Johnny Depp as the FBI agent. As for the movie, you know...forget about it!

Rating : 3.5/5.

I liked it, but it is not as good as say, Carlito's Way. Or even Goodfellas. Cant beat Scarface on sheer amazingness though, as far as crime movies go!

Friends with Benefits

A romcom movie starring Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis about friends who share bed without being emotionally involved but later do get emtional about the relationship.

A fantastic movie, Mila Kunis is mind blowing in her performance. The movie shows Justin can act too. Woody Harelson is at his wittiest best.

Co-incidentally, I saw the original "Lion King" yesterday. It is brilliant. I remember seeing it for the 1st time way back with my buddies @ Priya (Now a PVR). I think its been about 15 years since its release (maybe more). Beautiful storyline and I absoluetly love the names of the characteres. These I love in particular:

Simba - the protaganist
Mufasa - Simba's dad (my fav character name ever)
Zazu - Mufasa's trusted aide (parrot?)
Rafiki - The witch doctor / priest type monkey

I lost count of how many people named their pet dogs "Simba" after the release of this movie.

A must see IMO. Do show it to your kids. They will love it and so will you.

My rating - 5/5
