Saw it yesterday, definitely worth a watch, though I would not give it 5 stars that I've been reading everywhere. The last half an hour was spectacular though.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Watched 2 movies on Sunday, both Oscar nominations - Argo & Silver Linings Playbook.

Argo - Set in 1980s, based on true events about Iran US embassy hostage crisis. Very gripping, and totally engaging. Liked Ben Affleck as both the director and the main protagonist.

5 stars!

SLP - American romantic comedy-drama starring Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence in the lead roles. Anupam Kher has a decent role as well, unlike others from Bollywood who have done blink-and-miss roles in the past. Acting by Robert De Niro, Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence is very good. The movie can get quite slow in some places, but doesn't make it boring. I recommend.

4 Stars.

Caught the Oscars live this morning, and was very happy to see both the above movies winning the awards - Argo for best motion picture & Jennifer Lawrence for best actor female!

It's not slow by any standards. Totally loved the entire pace of the movie

Watched " Silver Lining Playbook"

I would like to summarize this movie by saying, it just blew me away.

Story of a bio-polar effected Bradley Cooper who's only aim in life is to get his estranged wife back. How he meets Tiffany who is a friend's wife's sister who is recently widowed and gets his life back is the crux of the story.

Bradley Cooper as a BPD patient is outrageously hilarious and acted so well, I was floored by his acting capabilities which was zilch explored in Hangover.

Robert Deniro as his dad is so amazing, words fail to describe his acting. Loved it to the core

Jennifer Lawrence as Tiffany is the star of the movie, she truly deserved the oscar and various other awards that were bestowed upon her.

Chris Tucker looked fat, wasted and wasnt required in this movie

Anupam Kher had a meaty role but, why they need a Indian doctor fails my common sense who tries to treat BC. And, since when we Indians have become die-hard fans of american football and that too with a crazy fanatisicm that is american ingrained. But, Anupam looked hilarious with Philly Eagles tatoos etc at the game.

A small mention to Bradley's friend ( who plays mexican characters in other movies). He was also awesome in a small comical role.

1st half is manic, fast paced and hilarious. 2nd half is mellowed down, romantic and feel-good. A lovely balance !!!

Overall, it's such an intelligent, well written/scripted and directed movie that I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and have to confess it goes into my DVD collection.

Must Watch ( If you enjoy good drama)....

4.5/5

Watched Taken 2

I had lot of expectations from this movie as the first one was brilliant unfortunately the 2nd part as is the case with most sequels is disappointing. Logic has been completely thrown out of the window. Quite a few scenes in the movie don't make any sense (hand Grenades are thrown like they are Diwali crackers).

But is it worth watching? Yes if you are Liam Neeson Fan

When i first heard about World War Z, i was of the opinion that it's going to be one of these boring Zombie movies. But, after seeing the trailer, all the more excited to watch it

Among the sequels due in 2013, there is one worth looking out for: Richard Linklater's "Before Midnight" collaborated by of course, Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy. A lapse of another 9 years and this time the locale is Greece.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

FLIGHT

Starts Denzel Washington, and it starts with a controlled commercial aircraft crash in which Washington prevents major loss of life by some inspired flying.
The movie then deals with the subsequent investigation of the event, and apportionment of blame.
What is the movie about?
Alcoholism...

Yeah, its more about the pilot coming to terms with his problem, and his lying because of it.

Its very well executed, but only for mature audiences, mostly because of the topic, and a little bit of R rated stuff.

Should watch this

3.5/5
