Captain Phillips: 4.5/5

Well, finally I managed to watch this movie. Somehow it had missed my radar of movies to watch, that too being a Tom Hanks die hard fan !!

A brilliantly executed movie. Kudos to the director for the attention to the detail. Tom Hanks looks so much charming !! I loved the white captain's uniform with white beard when he first enters the ship. That Look !!
There was not much to play / act for Tom Hank's character. He was his usual self of a hostage.

The pirates were just brilliant. Did a bit of research on the lead pirate, Muse. Turns out to be his first film. Excellent acting must say.

When I watch such movies, I end up spending a lot of time on Wiki, Google and other sources. Here is a very interesting article on Piracy in Somalia.

Interstellar - 4/5

Finally got to watch it today in IMAX. Sadly, I got a seat way in front and had to crane my neck to watch which wasn't a pleasant experience.

But, I liked the movie. Well, most of the stuff I understood without any problems as we were interested in black holes, space-time etc in school. We had a friend who used to talk about all this all the time.

Hehe, you guys might understand the pull of the black-hole etc if you've played Angry Birds Space

Watching again with friends this weekend.

Fury : 4/5
A World War 2 era story, Brad Pitt is the lead but the story is more interesting because of the new gunner that Pitt gets, a young recruit with no training or desire to be a tank crew. A good watch for the story of how the young recruit becomes a seasoned gunner. Brad Pitt is good in his role too as an experienced tank commander who prides himself on being one of the best tank commanders in terms of winning battles and keeping his crew alive.

Being a WW2 film, there is plenty of shooting and bombing, though not much gore with some other war themed movies.

The Equalizer : 3.5/5
Liked this more than "John Wick" , both being action movies. Denzel Washington doesn't emote much in this movie, not his best act but the screen effects are good in parts. The main villain or rather the villain boss' right hand man, is interesting. Denzel plays an ex-military specialist trying to live a peaceful civilian life until he gets involved with the Russian mafia. Denzel isn't a superhero but has keen sense of observation and speed as his main skills.

Falcon rising

Think Nick Carter meets Mack Bolan.
This seems like an effort to launch Michael Jai white in a regular, recurring government agency series of movies.
He's ex army, dealing with demons, and his social worker sister gets almost dead in Rio.
Rest is all boots and fists.

As always, completely blown away by how such a big guy can move so fast???
Think Schwarzenegger with jetli moves.
The movie is slickly made, action is cool, story was majboori, and treated as such.
Do watch if you're a white fan.
4/5

Sin city 2: if you love the original, you will not have much to complain about the sequel.

And yes, Eva Green!

Seriously, that depressing.
Revolutionary Road - 4/5

Brilliant acting by Kate Winslet. And a depressing movie. So, I quickly jumped to Sound City - some old school rock helped me.

But reviews of the movie only speak about the breakdown of American dream there. Not about she was really BSC?

The Equalizer
It's a Denzel Washington movie. That says it all. Not a single dull moment. He is everywhere in it as usual. Top class acting. Story isn't nothing new but the presentation is neat. A good watch.
Some killings in the movie is a bit gore so I won't advise to watch it while eating food or stuff.

Rating- 4/5

I too missed this somehow and watched it yesterday night. We have 2 similarities:

1. I too spend a lot of time on wiki after seeing movies
2. I think we both have OR registered cars

Guardians of the galaxy.

Apart from the overall awesomeness, was anyone else completely thrown off by Batista's amazing timing?
Hilarious he was!

Gone Girl - 8/10. very interesting plot and excellent acting by the lead pair. Not so much a thriller but makes you think a lot about the characters. Starts simple but becomes multilayered, delicious ,complex and rich with Time.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Guys, I would really, really like it if we can start rating on a scale of 0 - 10. Gives more range

Interstellar - again - 9/10
Watched it again with some friends and their wives/gfs. Women hated it and were cursing

Me and a friend loved it and were tripping throughout the movie. Friend was dazed after it and we went on discussing the movie well into the day.

Must be one of the best movies ever made. At least for me.

Watched it in 15 perf/70mm IMAX in Hyderabad. Loved it completely. The docking scene was awesome. It was as if we were in space looking at it directly. It is sad that this is the last movie in this format. :( :(

Wifey loved it too.

Definitely similarities !! I am a Bengali, born, brought up and family settled in Bhubaneswar. I own a OR registered 2004 Yamaha Libero. The Chevy Beat is one bought in Bangalore though since I am now settled here.

I am a fan of Disaster movies (Flight, Train, Natural disasters, etc) and movies based on real events / happennings. So I eventually end up spending a good time reading on Wiki and other sites.

In other news, saw two movies entirely different from each other. And both boring in their own way.

Brokeback Mountain: 2.5/5

Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal in a story about emotions and love.
Was quite a hot and taboo topic during 2005 when it was released and I was in my final year of studies. Hadn't got a chance to see it. Stumbled upon the media file while clearing up my external HDDs'.
Very very very slow and boring movie. May be since the subject was a difficult one, Ang Lee thought of going slow. Felt boring throughout the movie. In the entire 2hrs of the movie, may be 5-7mins of scene was worth. The rest was plain jane life going on.
May be since the topic is so freely discussed now, that no one cares a dime about it, and hence I feel the same too.

The Secret Window: 2/5

Epic boring movie of Johny Depp. I am not a fan of this guy. And this movie was mostly shot in a studio. Could have been a good story. But the director in an attempt to create a suspense, killed the entire enthu of the movie. Watch it if you have free internet to download and have nothing else to watch.

Watched Guardians of The Galaxy

Frankly I didn't have much expectation as I had no clue about these characters or the story line so picked it up for watching reluctantly. I was pleasantly surprised as it was a great movie to watch, they built up the characters very well & was an entertaining movie overall.

Marvel Studios seems to be on a roll with their movies, really looking forward to the Phase 3 movies that they have announced.

4.5/5
