Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Watched Everest yesterday.

Though the 3D effects were breathtaking, the movie failed to impress.
It felt more like a boring Nat Geo Documentary.

Jason Clarke as Rob Hall was good but Scott Fischer(Jake Gyllenhaal) was a let down.

A movie of this magnitude devoid of thrills and a tight screenplay is a sure disaster.
Would rate it 2/5(only for the superlative 3D effects).

Dear dpkbehera

The effects are good.
No doubt in that. However, the movie drags and the built up to the expedition takes ages.

When you are thinking this will happen, the disappointment starts.
You fail to connect with the characters or feel the excitement.

At a later stage, you are so disconnected that you dont even care!!

I absolutely love this series. I liked all 6 films and unlike most people I liked the new ones more than the old ones. Maybe because I had seen the the old ones after new ones.

Cant wait for 7,8,9

BlackMass was such a disappointment. Didnt want to go reading the reviews, but then friends wanted to watch it. The pace is SOOOO SLOW! I had watched a documentary on whitey before so this was not new to me. The movie revealed more but the pace just sucked. The good action sequences got over too quick and all you were left with was dialogues and more dialogues in boring settings.

I would rate it a 2/5 just for the story. Acting was ok but gosh did i Yawn.

Watched a interesting movie which if released in india should be watched.

Straight Outta Compton:
Total race related movie with regards to the Music group NWA - Famous folks you would know is Ice Cube and Dr Dre and Suge knight if you know the infamous Tupac Shakur murder.

This movie was good and fun to watch. The chemistry between the folks was awesome and showed the struggle people had to go through to get to where they are. I was thoroughly impressed by this movie.

Its not for the family.

Watch it if you like rap.

4/5. Its a 93% on rotten tomatoes after 4-5 weeks of release so imagine.

Just completely agree.

Forced my friends into this and got back their curses at the end.

It is just a documentary albeit with the likes of Clarke, Jake or Keira with not even a single role striking a chord with audience devoid of any thrills or action.

Yeah same here! I thought the newer ones were really good. Liked the older ones too except for some of the "creatures" - they reminded me of "Evil Dead". Hehehe, blasphemous for Star Wars fan for sure!

Watched this movie - Triangle.

Very interesting concept on horror, with a nice ending. Quite twisty all through. Never left me bored at any of the repetitive scenes.

The Intern - 8/10

Starring Robert De Niro & Anne Hathaway, it's a film about an e-commerce startup that hires a senior citizen as an intern.

It's a very sweet movie. De Niro is awesome as is Anne Hathaway in their respective roles. Lots of laughter and funny moments in the movie. Won't reveal any of the story as there isn't much. Please do watch it if you get a chance.

Les Diabolique is an excellent thriller. The movie is almost a perfect ten and well worth a watch. Movie is in French though.

Wages of Fear isn't too far behind, but is more of an action-adventure-suspense movie. This one is multi-lingual Spanish, Italian, French, English in tandem.
Yeah I remember watching wages of fear many years ago (on screen at the NFAI in pune ) it was great. The cigarette rolling scene when the tobacco flies off is an incredible one. The film won the golden bear at Berlin and the Palm d or at cannes in 1953, the year of its release

here s a nice introduction to the movie by Johnathan ross

and the movie itself

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

What are some of the engaging movies that came in recent years?

Something like inherent vice, interstellar and such. I can't seem to enjoy any romance/light hearted movies these days.

What genre are you looking for? Offbeat?

Some which I could pick from my IMDB ratings list:

Lives of Others (German)
A Separation (Iranian)
Intouchables (French)
Moon
Moonrise Kingdom, Grand Budapest Hotel (among Wes Anderson movies, in general his movies have a quirky style which you can experiment)
Carnage
Before Midnight
Lord of War

These are just from last 15 years. Can expand more if you want to.
