Trivia- This one is the 4th American remake and 5th overall remake of the 1937 Hollywood movie of the same name. Bollywood movie Aashiqi-2 was the official 4th remake of the Hollywood movie.

I have not watched the movie yet, but I am in love with the soundtrack. All songs are brilliant. Lady Gaga shines bright in the soundtrack. What a voice ! Now a days, we rarely get a full length album from a Hollywood movie.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

I watched X-Men The Dark Pheonix, I took a risk even after a brutal rotten tomato score. This video sums up everything about the movie.

Spoiler Alert!

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Annabelle Comes Home

Being one huge fan of the conjuring universe, I knew I had to catch up with the opening show and it was a packed hall. I wasn't sure whether the movie would live up to the hype like the previous movies and the trailer wasn't all that interesting (trailer does show all the good bits and I shouldn't have watched it).

Coming to the movie, Patrick and Vera (Warrens) share only a small amount of time on the screen while their daughter, babysitter and her friend dominate the screen time. The first half was pretty boring with only one decent scare whereas they squeezed in rest of the scary bits after the interval. As for the scares, wish they had more of the audio scares like their previous movies. In this, it was low except for a couple of scenes. Also I don't fancy the CGI effects in horror movies (Conjuring and Nun had some good ones even though there were some CGI effects). This movie focuses on some new characters which will be coming in next set of movies of the conjuring universe (they also had some old characters as well).

For me, I would rate this at number 3 or 4 of the conjuring series with conjuring 2 at the top.

Rating - 3/5

A very emotional movie with a sad ending.
These korean guys know how to make good emotional movies
Could you kindly advise where I can stream Korean movies in India.
There is a recent Telugu movie that is a copy of a Korean movie.
I am unable to locate the original in any streaming service in India.

Would appreciate your replies. Thanks in advance.

Watched 2 movies recently. One was the best animation movie I have ever seen, The isle of dogs. The animation is just out of the world and the soundtrack is brilliant. I could not think of any animation movie that impressed me so much in the recent history. Even if one is not a fan of animation movies, this is a must watch.

And second movie I watched was Den of thieves. I think Hollywood has forgotten how to make decent crime movies. This is a borefest! Would not recommend at all! Instead one would be better off watching some older movies like the Untoucables, Heat etc.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Spidermania:

1. Spiderman:Into the spider verse (Animated): Surprisingly good and mature movie for the genre. Really liked it (4/5)

2. Spiderman - Far from Home: (4/5) Maybe I'm a fan, but i liked the movie. Better than the first one (Homecoming). Big twist came as expected but still, Jake Gyllenhaal fits the bill perfectly. A must watch.

As an aside, I can understand why Spiderman is the most popular and loved character in Superhero Genre. He is (Designed to be) the most human of them all, being superhuman but still unsure of himself. All of these humane-ness is beautifully captured in both the movies.

The Vanishing:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4131496/

Dark hard hitting intense movie. Gerard Butler is pretty good in this one.

Detective Pikachu:
Other than Ryan Reynolds playing Pikachu, everything else fell flat

The Curse of La Llorona:
Predictable and boring.

Chocolate:
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1183252/

Crazy crazy action scenes! What a riot of martial arts!

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Watched John Wick 3 Parabellum.

IMHO a mindless movie, I watched it just because I found the part 1 & 2 was really good. There was nothing new in the third installment, Keanu's acting has gone down considerably. The fight sequences weren't awe inspiring. All in all one franchisee whose sequel failed to meet the original success.

Rating: 2/5

Toy Story 4 : 3.5/5

One would think a story about toys of a child would be just enough for one or two movies. But Toy Story 4 is worth watching to that aspect that the writers have been able to reinvent the story and make it worthwhile for a 4th time.

But you do start seeing the repetition in the overall concept. The kid might have changed, and the background problem might be a different one, but it is repetition. And I hope they stop at 4.

P. S. Keanu Reeves is the surprise addition that could have done with more!

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Watched 'Vice' on a flight and I would highly recommend watching this movie to anyone interested in politics. Am not sure how true the events depicted were, but even if 80% of what was shown in the movie is correct, its just shocking how US went to war with Iraq.
The lead actor has done a great job of playing Dick Cheney, so did the actor who played Rumsfeld and I thought even the actor playing Dubya did a good job.

Watched Lion King. The graphics are amazing to say the least. If you compare it to the original, you'd realise how far we have come with respect to technology.

Not a movie, but like a movie. More drama than any movie you saw.

The Inventor on Hotstar. Rating 5/5 stars. The book "Bad Blood" is also strongly recommended if you're into reading.

My wife and I saw this. Had read extensively about her. It is amazing, the deception and web of lies that she wove. It was beyond jugged.

and her stare...., it is fascinating and scary!

Ouija: Origin of Evil
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4361050/

One of the few movies where the prequel was better than the original

Good tight movie with a few good scares.

Re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

A lot of you might have missed out on "Yesterday"

A hilarious modern day story about a struggling Indian origin musician who survives a freak accident to find that the Beatles never existed, so he reinvents their songs and becomes world famous but the fame gets to him. Also star Ed Sheeran as himself.

Also a couple of popular items suddenlynever exist. I won't mention it here and spoil things. Oh and Lily James is so sweet, she took stole my heart!

A worthy light-hearted watch.
