A seriously good looking movie! I have started watching it and am really blown away by how beautiful the whole thing looks.

**********A small spoiler alert***********
On a side note, doesn't this epitomize the saying that behind every great man is a woman? Borte's character is understated and yet all so powerful. I don't know much about history but she was the reason why he ever became so big.

The movie is about the life of Gengis Khan, before he became Gengis Khan. An extraordinary and tender look at a man that has been called a ruthless barbarian by history.

I loved it. Extraordinary art direction, some of the shots are living paintings and the performances are outstanding.

Make sure you have the english subtitles on. If downloading the movie make sure you get the right .sub or .srt files.

If you want to really enjoy the Genghis story, read the Conqueror series:

Wolf of the Plains (his childhood).
Lords of the Bow (his conquest of China)

I have read the second one, and frantically looking for the first one, can't find it. BTW, the correct pronunciation is Chengis Khan, the west has long corrupted his name as Genghis Kahn.

Watched Road House last night on Star Movies featuring Patrick Swayze & Kelly Lynch.

The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)-roadhouse.jpg

Its a Story of a new bouncer in town(Patrick Swayze) who is a renowned bouncer & the difficulties he faces in that small town which is under the control a local business Tycoon.

The story is quite predictable(atleast now, it might not be back in 1989) but the direction is nice & performances are decent.

Rating - 3.5/5

i forgot to mention that is has all those nudity, sex and all stuff too.

it is a strongly rated R film, so it should be watch without family.

Good for you mate. I never noticed the 'R' tag with it (Wait a min, isn't that 'A'). Straight away put in the DVD player and watched the events unfold on big screen. Useless movie to played on the home theatre setup though, there are no sound effects as such, everything has a more fast visual taste with some amazing camera handling techniques. For sometime I thought I was going to have a severe headache.
Lemme know your reviews when you watch it and PM me back to this thread.

this is why it is rated R...A i guess for screening in India.
R - Restricted (1968-Present) A film with this rating requires a viewer under the age of 17 (18 in some jurisdictions) to have a parent or other adult guardian accompanying the viewer. May contain very strong language or strong sexual emphasis, strong explicit nudity, strong violence and gore, or strong drug content.source: Motion Picture Association of America film rating system - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

i already watched crank, will now watch crank 2 in a day or two and let you know my view on it. going by the trailers, it looks just as good as the first one. lets see.

Naah, sequels are never that good. Crank 2 is an ok watch, just about. If you like Statham, and if you like Amy Smart

just on the topic of sequels never being that good,
Godfather -> Godfather II (nevermind the letdown called godfather 3)
Spiderman -> Spiderman II (which i thought was better than part I; again forget part III)
Before Sunrise -> Before Sunset (Awesome)

these were cases where sequels were equal/outdid the first part IMO.

Hmmm.....Add T2: Judgement day to that. These are exceptions though. Am sure there are more cases of sequels not being as good as the original. So, strike the "never" and replace with "mostly".

Coming back to English movies, has anyone seen Mackenna's Gold by any chance?
Its a 1969 classic. Brilliant opening, nice sound track and amazing to watch on a Home theatre system.

Another 1969 classic: Battle of Britain.
Real story (of course)Nice plot. How British pilots won the war despite being outnumbered by the Germans. Nice dogfights and effects. Worth a watch on HT.

Saw American Psycho last night.....Excellent movie.
Am still wondering whether the events that took place in the movie were real or just a part of his imagination/dreams ?
Christian Bale was great as usual.
And the movie is not as gory as its made out to be.

Yes I have seen Mackenna's Gold couple of times.

It is one of the all time Gregory Peck Classic hit movies.
