Guys, I see many of you giving extreme ratings to many movies. Often it is not justified. For example, I see rating for Fifth Element and District 9 varying from worst to best. How can both be right?

If you give too many extreme ratings, you will soon lose all credibility for your rating. If you insist on giving a rating that is below 2, do think again, it may not be a genre of your liking.

That is another thing. If you don't like a genre of movies, try not to give it a score. You can say whether you like it or not, but rating it would be unfair. For example, my wife hates blood and gore in movies. You think I'll trust her rating of Saving Private Ryan, Band of brothers or Dirty Dozen? Similarly, I hate horror movies, zombie/vampire/werewolf movies, I'll probably dislike most movies in that genre, therefore me rating such movies is meaningless.

Fifth Element: First 20 minutes are crazy, after that it gets better, much better. You have to be a sci-fi though to like it.
District 9: I got bored after first 5 minutes and switched off. I need to see it fully before I can comment further.

I agree with Samurai that lots of ratings have either been "loved it/must watch" or "absolute garbage" type.

I do not rate any movies in the Sci-Fi, Animation or Disaster movies genre normally as I hate those and rarely watch them (but do not rate , there are always exceptions to the rule!).

Actually you had done the hard work and left without reaping the reward. Once the young inmate is allowed out of jail for daytime parole things start getting interesting and the climax that it leads to is good. Not many action sequences to speak of but the suspense buildup is brilliant.

March is a good month for movie buffs. Hollywood releases many movies during summer. I was pleasantly surprised to see a full page ad today for "Clash of the Titans-3D" which is reseasing in April. I have seen the original several times when I was a kid. Also looking forward to watching Legion this weekend.

Watched couple of movies in my Cowon S9

1) Legion - 2.5/5
2) Men who stare at goats 3/5
3) Old Dogs - 2.5/5

Nothing great, I would rate Men who stare at Goats, as the best among the three.

Mulholland drive-
Seen it just cos it had a rating of 8 in imdb.
Disappointed after seeing the full movie.
Termed as a thriller it couldn't thrill me even for a min!

Rating -2/5

Not really actually. I you are looking for laughs... look somewhere else. This one like other British comedies will only manage a smile on your face. Good time pass none the less, just dont have too much expectations.

Not been following this thread much. If you're a sci-fi buff, don't miss D-9. It gets interesting as it builds up after 15-20 odd minutes. It's presented documentary form so takes a while to get used to. But is one of the most mature and hard sci-fi movies. After the first 30 min, I was totally taken by it. I thought I was reading a good hugo-nebula class novel as I watched it. Those who liked blade runner would love this one too.
Another one I liked was Pitch Dark or something starring Vin Diesel. If you don't mind slow pace but beautiful presentation, do watch The Bicentennial Man.

Watched this movie halfway and was totally hooked by the imagery. Was in a remote area and electricity failed. Have been haunted by it ever since but unable to find it.
