re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Watched multi award winning movie "The Fighter" last weekend. Based on a real story on the life of professional boxer "Irish" Micky Ward ( played by Wahlberg).

Awesome movie, its as much about boxing as it is about family relationships. All of the actors have done an excellent job. I had liked Amy Adams in Julie & Julia, and she is really good here as well, along with Mark Wahlberg. But the show stealers are Christian Bale & Melissa Leo! The former plays the part of Micky's older half-brother Dicky Eklund, and latter, his mother. No wonder both of them won Best Support actor/actress awards for their performance!

Would rate it 4.5/5

PS: Next on my must watch list is True Grit, anybody seen it yet?

Calling on Eric!

Those of you who are soccer fans! This is a good watch.

Eric Cantona - though I am not a huge ManU fan.......a gunner through and through. Its got a good pace, nice story line and Eric Cantona!

Man he oozes tons of attitude - a line where he says - "Man, who is Man? I am not a man. I am CANTONA!"

A sort of a comedy - English Comedy. Would rate it 3.5/5, worth a watch.

re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

This Sunday it was 'The Adjustment Bureau' - fantasy thriller with romance thrown in. Different from everything run-off-the-mill. I say this one is a recommended (if not must) watch. Matt Damon and Emily Blunt put up some nice acts, with the 'bureau' and its 'chairman' wishing for things to go the other way!
4/5 from me.

re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

I have lost track of movie releases in the last few months.
Can someone list down the 'best' movies released in 2011 so far?
(no horror movies please)

I have 'The Fighter' in my list already.

Got " Village" of Night Shymalan delivered. Is it worth going through it?

If you liked The Sixth Sense then you'd like this one too.

@mobike: prepare to be surprised, and not watch it on an expensive tele....
-------
huge fan of nicolas cage, so went and saw "drive angry".
Personally, i think the 3d, and the "have-to-adjusted-constantly" goggles sort of killed the whole movie.so overall, turned away by the movie.
came back and had to watch his best, "lord of war", to maintain my fandom....

I would rate Sixth Sense as 4.5/5 & Village as 3/5.

It's still worth a watch though. The cinematography is very nice and the twist in the end, though not as exciting as Sixth Sense is still OK.

There it is...
Personally i felt he wanted to outdo the sixth sense ending, and went with "strange sense" ending in the village.
The "expensive tele" bit was a personal opinion.

Thanks guys. Look forward to it now. I personally like Joaquin Phoenix so hopefully will like it

@Mayank, are you saying there is a danger of breaking the television set due to frustration or anger? Even i didnt understand what you meant by "Tele"

You're right. I think he should've made The Village first and then The Sixth Sense. I watched all his movies as they were made and kept on getting disappointed from The Signs onwards -> Lady in the Water -> The Happening.

Definitely not.
@mayank: You know you exaggerated with your "tele" bit, it isn't that bad.

Yup. Like Ram Gopal Varma - after making Satya & Company nothing else came even close to it.

Same thing with MNS - after Sixth Sense & Unbreakable, everything else was disappointing. However, I watched Lady in the Water & Happening long after I had given up hope on him & hence found the movies OK. If I had watched them right after Sixth Sense & Unbreakable, I would have been pretty disappointed.

re: The English Movies Thread (No Spoilers Please)

Both RGV and Night Shyamalan are very innovative filmmakers who aren't afraid to swim against the tide. There almost seems to be some silent agenda behind the media ridiculing them. But I'm not writing them off just yet!
